<p>I don't know if anyone will read this, but I'll try...I've recently become more interested in Goucher and was curious as to any insight into the college people might have.
What is good about Goucher?
What is bad about Goucher?
These can be related to anything; academics, the campus, Baltimore, the student body, social scene, etc.
Thanks!!!</p>
<p>Hoping someone answers because Goucher is on my son's radar also. We plan to visit in the fall.</p>
<p>My daughter had Goucher on her list and we had a nice visit earlier this year.</p>
<p>Positives:
Good (but not great) merit aid
We met some wonderful, caring teachers
Students seemed very happy
Study abroad opportunities
Flexible programs / customization
Nice, walkable campus</p>
<p>Negatives -- these were personal to my d, you might feel otherwise
Size - it was just a little bit too small for my d (but again, could be perfect for you)
Location - Too suburban for my "city girl," who wanted a traditional campus in a walkable city. We heard reports of great bus service, but she just couldn't shake her anti-suburban feelings (e.g. you can walk to a mall, but that's not the traditional "walking city" she was looking for).</p>
<p>Thanks everyone!!! :)
What other schools are your kids looking at?</p>
<p>I'm considering Goucher as well. I haven't been looking at LACs much but Goucher really looks interesting</p>
<p>My daughter is also looking at Goucher and we toured it in June. Here is a copy of the review we wrote for another board-
GOUCHER: the campus was a beautiful park like setting and the atmosphere is rural although it is adjacent to a large urban area. We were delayed arriving due to traffic and missed the guided tour. The Receptionist provided us with a map and pointed out the buildings to visit. Of course since school was out the campus was almost empty. The people we did encounter walking were friendly and initiated conversations with us. :) My daughter was quiet and walking slowly (impression not interested) until she saw the tire swing in the middle of campus. She got on the swing and I took photos. After that she began chatting about the setting and took an interest in touring.
Info session was small (the 3 of us and a mom from Northern Cal who sat in while her daughter had an interview). Academics as reported by others their academic program is very good especially for such a small school. A big plus for my D is the study abroad requirement and the small class size.. The Admin Representative described the students as ones who really know who they are and said they ranged from kids with green hair to the preppy crowd and that everyone gets along. I know she was trying to make it seem as if my daughter (perfect hair and make-up, designer jeans) would fit in but when she kept making references to the TV show the OC it turned her off. My D also didnt like the fact that the gates to the college are closed at 7pm-7am and that although the kids can sign out most kids dont and that teachers are know to call students in the dorms or on their cell phones if they are late to class.
Daughters Impression: too spread out, too small and too much like her performing arts high school in student population and rules
but she liked the tire swing and study abroad program!<br>
I thought she had eliminated it but today she was working on the application and is planning on contacting the admin office throught the upcoming Colleges that Change Lives Fair next week in Southern Calif.</p>
<p>"...they ranged from kids with green hair to the preppy crowd and that 'everyone' gets along."</p>
<p>I am a student at Goucher and it is true that everyone gets along and the students really do range from kids with greed hair to the preppy croud. In addition, I like the O.C. </p>
<p>Also, there really isn't any problem in signing in between 7pm and 7am (it is really 8pm to some time in the early morning) because you don't really sign in... there is only a security gaurd at the gate whom waves at people who drive or walk by. </p>
<p>I will be going abroad this coming fall and I can tell you the the study abroad process at Goucher is very very simple and if you go to school at Goucher, you should really take advantage of the program. </p>
<p>Goucher's small student population does make the campus feel a lot smaller than it actually is because all of the academic buildings are close together, as well as the dorms. Also, with Goucher being a residential campus, you're on campus most of the time and typically see the same people all the time which can definately be a drag. I would say that if Goucher was 1,000 to 2,000 students larger, it would have much more comfortable feel to it.</p>
