Thank you @liveonboca . She had to put in 5 schools, but she is only interested in three of them. She put in the last two because she needed to put them in for submitting her application. If I am not mistaken I think her interview is on the 10th.
We have to call her school registrar tomorrow morning to see if she will be able to send the transcript to Posse. My daughter is the first student to be nominated to posse from her high school and her counselor has no idea how this process works. We will have to educate the counselor now .
So, my daughter sent an email to her school registrar last night regarding the transcripts and got a reply this morning with a link from where we could order them. We ordered them at 8:15 AM this morning and to my surprise it was processed by 11:35 AM. When she called posse at 3:30 PM, they confirmed that they received the email with the transcripts. Now she is preparing to upload her graded paper from last year and a resume. I wish all the college applications were this easy!
Your school sounds very efficient. I am dealing with LAUSD and I have a feeling it is not going to be as much, but I have faith. They did it before, so hopefully, due to Covid, somebody is there to do it again. Fingers crossed. I asked my daughter about uploading her paper and a resume or something - artwork, blah, blah and she said she does not want to talk about college. LOL.
So, looks like we are done uploading all the documents for DAP2. My daughter decided to upload her US History paper (14 pages ) for her graded paper, Extended resume and a video that she made as optional files. She is taking SAT on Sept 26th (hopefully that wont get cancelled, ), so no standardized test scores for her. Hopefully that wont be detrimental at least for DAP2, because all the schools in our posse are TO.
@Momof0ne The lack of test score will not be an issue, especially this year. If your kid becomes a finalist, Posse will pair them with the college which they think will be the best match.
While test scores would help Posse decide on the correct pairing, I donât think that it will affect whether your kid will be paired with a college and advance to finalist. Most of the material that your kid is uploading has to do with helping Posse match kids to the right school.
Dickinson College, a Posse LA school, must have been listening they went TEST BLIND this year for admission and scholarship consideration today. It has been tough to get the test scheduled, and when you do, it gets canceled.
@momofOne and @mwolf thank you both for your support and encouragement for my daughter. She survived DAP1 and DAP2 so far and she says it has been a confidence boost practicing, role playing, researching why she thinks she is a good candidate for the Posse scholarship and why she wants to go to one of the Posse schools offered in our Posse office/city. Until she heard herself say all the things she has accomplished/experienced/overcome outloud she really did not believe she was worthy or deserving of the scholarship, but it has really helped her discover how she has evolved and what she wants her future in college and beyond to look like. Now she waits to hear if she made it as a finalist.
@maryx123 , the interview was mainly about the leadership positions and other stuff on the resume and why the first choice school. There were two people, one Posse staff and another volunteer, who was an alum from one of the posse schools.
I would say, ask your child to do some research (if they havenât already) on why they want to attend the schools that they selected. Hope that helps. Good luck!
@Momof0ne Thanks for all the helpful tips! I was also wondering how long did the interview last? How long do the applicants have to wait until they find out if they are a finalist or not?
@maryx123 , the interview was two days ago, it lasted somewhere between 30 and 35 min. This is our first time going through this process, I am not sure about the next steps. One thing though, the interviewers were really nice complimenting and encouraging. So, tell your child that they should just relax and have fun!
I envy these of you guys who received these super early DAP 2 dates. Our Dâs is on 10/5.
We are a bit confused how it affects the rest of the college application process because she may be getting her notification re. the final round after the ED1 deadlines!
It is practically impossible to get a hold of anyone at the Posse office so I decided to ask a few questions here, if there is an authoritative link you can provide while answering it you be awesome â but I would be grateful for any input.
Would it be OK to apply ED1 to another college, outside the Posse list, especially if the finalist decision is not made until 11/1?
How about ED to a Posse school from your list? The rationale would be that if the ED acceptance rate is much higher than during the RD round, it would make sense to go for it; on the other hand, it would create a legally iffy situation if accepted ED and selected as a Posse finalist, wouldnât it?
Your daughter has already heard the DAP2 result? We were told it will be the end of Oct and are worried the deadlines for other ED schools are due or past.
@ArtsyKidDad : we have the same concern. And in the next step paper for semi-finalist says to submit the common app for ED on Nov 9-12 week. We are so confused the deadline has due. Or Posse partner schools use different ED deadlines for Posse finalists?
@YMBA6688, my daughter got an email after her DAP2, in which they mentioned that they will give the results end of Oct. One of the universities in our Posse is a public university and my daughter will be an auto admit to that. So, we went ahead and applied for that because we did not want to miss the universityâs priority deadline which is Oct 15th. They do not have an ED option, but they have a Priority deadline for engineering applicants.
My daughter asked the folks at our local Posse office about applying to this university before her DAP1, and they said its ok, because they know about the auto admissions.
We will ask the Posse reps these questions but it is impossible to get a hold of them at the moment, so hopefully, there will be time for it during the interview.
In the meantime, our moonshot SCEA school, Yale, replied that they are OK with submitting a SCEA application to their school, they just ask to withdraw it if/once the Posse finalist contract is signed. Logically, I cannot imagine how the typical non-binding EA would interfere but without a confirmation, itâs just guessing.
I donât think that you will get your DAP2 decisions after Nov 1st. Iâm pretty sure that Posse will notify you before Nov 1st, but, if itâs getting close to Nov 1st and you hadnât heard, contact them.
In any case, my kid had an ED1 application ready to go, in case she had either not been paired or if she had been paired to a college which she did not want to attend.
Your kid can apply EA to any college - my kid applied to two. She could never figure out how to turn down one of them. For some weird reason, the âaccepted studentâ portal did not have any way to withdraw. She ended up send their admissions office an email.
BTW, if your kid is paired, but not selected, their chances of being accepted RD from another Posse partner college are pretty good. These colleges partner with Posse because they trust the Posse selection process. While the âadmissionâ rate for Posse Scholars is less than 5%, these colleges are willing to accept them at a 50%. So they really trust that Posse finalists are not only good enough to be accepted, but good enough to warrant really good FA. Many colleges often select 11, rather than 10.
In fact, applicants who pass DAP 2 but are not paired have their applications sent to all college partners, and these will actually reach out to students.
Moreover, AOs at colleges who are on the Posse Access list are also considering all of the notes that Posse staff wrote during DAP 1 and DAP 2.
