Possible AP Bio questions

Has anyone's teacher told you what he/she thinks will be on the AP Biology free response section? My teacher doesn't really teach so it would be nice to have an idea of what's coming instead of wasting 5 minutes on the shock of the question.

Also does anyone have any tips for how to write the essays? Do they have to be in essay format i(e intro paragraph 3-5 body paragraphs conclusion paragraph) or can it be just a giant paragraph?

I would be forever greatful if someone could help me out. Thanks.

okay this is a possible question...itd probably be on the harder side of questions they could ask (besides some genetics questions...which can sometimes be way out there)

What function do the Ca2+ ions serve by binding to troponin during muscle contraction?

Thanks. Thats a good question. I need to brush up on my bio before the exam. I'm so glad it'll be over after the 9th. I hate this subject so I'm hoping I'll be able to get at least a 4 and get out of it in college.

Please keep posting more questions.

"What function do the Ca2+ ions serve by binding to troponin during muscle contraction?"

Are you kidding?
That is a very specific question, whereas the free-response questions usually seem very broad, but (of course) require you to delve into the details.

yeah, the free response usually relates many things together. The question could be something like...describe the relationship between the endocrine system and muscular system...then you can talk about the parathyroids/thyroids regulating Ca++ in the blood and how it can affect muscle contractions (I don't know if the parathyroid actually regulates Ca++ to the extent of having an effect on muscle contractions, but you get the idea)

I would make sure you can cite examples of genetic, nutrition, ect disorders

I was thinking something biotech style

Hmm..maybe photosynthesis/cellular respiration, systems stuff (endocrine, immune, feedback mechanisms (negative v. positive)), and my teacher told us that they always ask about nervous system responses...like the hyperpolarization, depolarization, sodium and potassium channels stuff.

I think I'm just going to write as much as possible about everything minutely related to the question. god bless AP broadness...IB bio on the other hand...can go experience cellular equilibrium...

so wait, what about the format of the essays? I've always been curious about that heh.

I've always wrote the essays on my tests as a giant paragraph.

there are 4 essays. one on cells/molecules, one on dna related stuff, one on animals diversity/physiology/plants, and one experimental one. they are usually pretty general and you get points for details. dont write a fluffy intro you get no points for that. you recieve points only for actual information that shows you understand something. examples, elaboration and pictres can give you extra points. basically it is just like spitting out things you know. also they wont take points off for anything wrong, unless it contradicts something said earlier or later in your essay.

no im not kidding, as a matter of fact there was a question similar to that on last year's exam. it is pretty in depth but its also meant to be a hard question. the FRQs are not bad...last year's were on evolution and darwinism and meiosis mostly. one was on symbiosis. most of the multiple choice are pretty fair

Ahhhhhhh. I'm so unprepared for this exam. I'm so busy studying for calc right now though so I'll have to cram everything in in 5 days. I hate biology.

Thanks everyone. I think I get the gist of what type of questions are going to be on there. So biomaster, you took the exam last year? How did you write your essays. Just a big paragraph or actual essay format?

Is it pick three out of 4 essays?

My teacher told us not to write an intro or conclusion. Just lay out the facts simply. You could break it down by paragraph (if you have two examples, or something) or mush it all together.

I think you have to answer all 4 essays TuftsPlease.

So it doesn't matter about the essays. Thats good because all year I've been just writing a giant paragraph full of info related to the subject.

Miss Aryana! First time actually talking to you on here. I should be doing Lois' vocab but no..I'm on CC. I bet you're studying your brains out !

Alright well um you probably won't see this till tomorrow evening..so see you in Spanish tomorrow ..just had to drop a line ;)

Everyone bug baggins what SAT score she got because she never told me :p

Nitrogen fixation and ammonifying bacteria and what not.... mycorrhizae and heartwood v. sapwood in plants and structure and function of the cardiovascular system and .....

probably a molecular bio/biotech question... there hasnt been one in awhile...
