Possible Decreased Enrollment For Fall - Bad News for Deferred and RD Applicants

This has been hitting the news recently and appears that if the state legislature cuts $600 million from the University System of Georgia, the enrollmnet for Fall 2010 at UGA may be reduced.

I hope you are planning to address the news on the radio this morning that UGA is considering revoking 500 letters of acceptance due to budget cuts. Would those 500 come from who was admitted last or whose grades/stats are the lowest? Please tell me this isn't so :(

Linda: Yes, we when we are reading freshman files, we are looking at the first semester grades.

Future UGA mom: This is an issue that really is better addressed by the Presidents of the colleges and universities and the Chancellor of the University system, as it impacts not only UGA, but the entire Univ. System of GA. What you have read is only a response to the GA state legislature request for how to cut $600 million from the USG system (which would mean about $60 million from UGA). What you have seen is only an outline to the legislature of what could possibly happen if UGA was forced to cut the $60 million from our already dwindling budget.

As well, there was no mention of revoking any acceptance letters, so do not panic about that. What it stated was that if we were forced to cut $60 million from our budget, one part of this could result in enrolling 500 fewer freshman and 1,000 fewer transfers for next fall.

At this time, though, we are still moving forward as planned for next year. We are still reading files, reviewing transfer applicants, and doing what we always do during this time of year.

But remember, the legislature controls our budget, and UGA has to work within whatever they allot our University.

BETTER NEWS THIS AFTERNOON!
[Governor hammers Legislature for talk of big college cuts | Gold Dome Live](http://blogs.ajc.com/gold-dome-live/2010/03/04/governor-hammers-legislature-for-talk-of-big-college-cuts/?cxntfid=blogs_gold_dome_live)

Yeah, some of the cuts they proposed are RIDICULOUS to the point where it’s unbelievable. They’re considering taking trash out ONCE A MONTH. Really…really?

However, honestly, I wouldn’t be against lowering the number of freshman that come in. Maybe not RIGHT now, but for those coming in three or four years from now who have enough warning to do their best through high school, I think it should apply. I think it would help increase the quality of students that come to UGA and help make UGA a higher tier school. I mean, really…do we really need more students who lose HOPE because they go downtown too much? There is really no excuse for getting below a 3.0. UGA is not THAT hard.

this is all talk. nothing will acutally happen

ugh, i’m actually GLAD to hear that the enrollment may be reduced… there are toooo many students at uga for my taste  haha
