Possible, or just stupid-crazy?

Has anyone tried taking Engineering Physics (Mechanics) and MV Calc over summer session? Were you able to get A's in both classes, or at least one A and one B? I'm doing middle college and already took Introductory Physics (and got the top grade), but that was the only class I took over the summer. I got an A- in Calc 1 and a B in Calc 2. I'm thinking 2 classes won't be any different than a full courseload during the school year. What does everyone think?

Well, you have to remember that these are both technical courses, so it’s not exactly a normal semester. It would be closer to taking two maths and two lab physics together in a semester, which could be difficult, depending on you.

Personally I didn’t find Multivariate or Mechanics to be too tricky so I’d say it’s okay, but Physics over the summer always seemed worse than Physics during a normal semester… Also, keep in mind that summer session sometimes has to cut material, so if your major requires a really strong math background, it might be better to take Multivariate during a normal semester.

tl;dr: Depends on you, but sounds do-able.

Hmmm, I’ll give it some more thought. I appreciate you helping to put it in perspective. Thanks for your response!

The problem with most summer sessions is that they run courses in 6-8 weeks. You can sometimes find university courses that run 12 to 14 weeks which is a lot closer to a regular Spring/Fall semester in length.

UIUC has an online MV Calc course which you do at your own pace. The program is called NetMath.

The usual starter freshman semester at my school is one humanities course with Chemistry, Mechanics, and Multivariable, to be followed in the spring by a second humanities class, Bio, Electricity & Magnetism, and either Linear Algebra or Differential Equations. Since this is what almost everyone takes, obviously not everyone gets perfect A’s, but many do.

difficult…

I don’t know what middle college is. If your physics course was reasonably rigorous then that shouldn’t be an issue. I found MV calc difficult but it might not be a bad choice to compress into summer term.
