My daughter is interested in religion major, but that can be very different depending on school. While she knows most programs require some study of all religions, she wants to be sure that the Christianity portion is taught from a position of faith and theology, not just social/cultural/literature. Any ideas of who might give good reviews of various religion departments. She is not interested in specifically Christians schools. She, bizarrely, is also interested in physics or engineering. She is looking at southeast schools like UVA, Davidson, Duke, Wake, Furman, Clemson, PC.

At UVA a number of the people who teach Christianity in the religion department happen to be personally devout, but they don’t (and shouldn’t) demand the same from the students in their classes. If your D wants a faith-based education, she should attend a Christian school, not a secular university. Alternatively, she could major in religion at a secular school like UVA, understanding that it will be similar to majoring in philosophy or anthropology, and get involved in campus ministry or Christian organizations on an extracurricular basis.

What kind of job does one get with a religion degree?
