Possible rescind because grades (no D's or F's, but gpa in general)?

After finishing my first semester of senior year, my grades dropped. I did not get any A this semester and I got one C, the rest are B, which means my unweighted gpa is below 3.0, so if I were to get accepted, would I be automatically rescinded for this? Would it help if I do better this second semester (I trust I will)?

I doubt your admissions officier may be rescinded, but they may put you on academic probation.

you wont get rescinded

What school is it?

State schools will not rescind you for that.
Privates might.

I am applying to Berkeley, and I am in my high school senior year right now.
This is only in case I get accepted, since I do not know the result yet. So I am still trying to do better for this second semester.

I am pretty sure they’ll want to see your first semester grades before they make a decision. All of your RD schools will want to see your first semester grades. Good luck.

In that case, you don’t have an offer that can be rescinded-- rescinding/revoking refers to an offer already been made. Your grades will count, but if possible, see if your GC will include any mitigating circumstances along with your first-quarter grades.

In past years, people have reported that Berkeley admissions letters came with conditions of admission that specified completing previously reported senior year courses with 3.0 GPA and no D or F grades. You may want to search for those past threads.

Same thing happened to me. All B’s, one C.

Second semester I received All B’s, One C, and Two A’s.

Didn’t get rescinded.

I also contacted them through that weird admissions thing they had like 4 years ago, I don’t think they ever looked at it because I never received a reply.

Berkeley doesn’t ask for a midyear report, so this shouldn’t affect the admissions decision. I am fairly sure that they want a 3.0, but that is a weighted GPA. If you have at least one weighted (AP or UC approved honors) course, you should be fine.

Berkeley doesn’t ask for a midyear report so they aren’t going to know about your 1st semester GPA until the summer when they see your final transcripts. And, believe it or not, that is a bad thing! When you get the offer of admission (should one be extended) you will note they say they have provisionally accepted you. Those conditions of admission, from what I’ve read, will include requiring you earn an unweighted 3.0 each semester. So you have a problem.

You don’t meet that condition, which means they could rescind you. I don’t know how close your GPA is to that 3.0 but that doesn’t really matter because I don’t know their cutoff for rescinding. Should you be admitted I suggest you contact them immediately to see what they say. Perhaps they’ll let it slide, ask to you take a summer class, etc. But you’re much better off knowing before you send in the SIR than the worst-case outcome which is crossing your fingers and mailing in your acceptance, only to find out in July they’ve rescinded you – at which point your only option is probably going to a CC or taking a gap year.
