I am a Spring 2013 UC Berkeley admit and a Fall 2012 participant of the Fall Program for Freshmen. The conditions for the fall programs stated that I must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA or my Spring 2013 admission "may be subject to cancellation." Unfortunately, due to familial issues (father almost being deported, working to send money home to pay for the immigration lawyer), my grades suffered and I failed a class, causing my overall GPA to fall to a 1.8. I have written a draft of my appeal of explanation, and plan on sending it in on January 2nd, when the Office of Undergraduate Admissions reopens for the Spring semester. I fear that when my appeal is being reviewed by the Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions (and not a committee), there might be bias in the decision. I am seriously worried about my situation, and would like to ask of ways to strengthen an letter of appeal of explanation, and what are my chances of retaining my spring admission?

@goldenbearyj how did it end up with
