Possible senior transfer? Need advice

I’m going into my second semester of my junior year and I’m unhappy with the college I’m currently attending. I have been thinking about transferring since the beginning of my freshman year, but I figured I needed to tough it out since I haven’t even been there for a complete semester. The following year I knew for sure I really didn’t want to be here anymore, but I ended up psyching myself out of transferring, (worried about getting a good recommendation for CommonApp, not wanting to bring it up to my roommates and friends, worried that none of my units would transfer, worried my grades wouldn’t be good enough, worried I would never be able to come up with the money for finical aid etc.) thus missing the deadline for the majority of the places I would have liked to go to.

Now, I’m about to go back to school in a couple weeks and I can’t help but feel like I’m missing out on something better. I don’t necessarily want to be closer to home, just somewhere else. I’ve been dealing with depression and anxiety for a long time and I think it’s only gotten worse since I started college. Even though I only have three semesters left, I’m considering transferring after the end of this semester. But I’m also worried about how it would look when I’m applying for grad school.

Does anybody have any advice?
Has anybody transferred out of college after their junior year and would like to tell me how it turned out?
Or, does anybody have any advice for me if it doesn’t pan out and I end up staying?

Sophomore year was your best time to transfer into a different school as a junior. You made your bed and now lie in it. Unless you have a legitimate good reason other than depression to transfer, not a lot of colleges are going to care. There are community college kids and they have priority over you because they have nowhere else to go. They have to transfer. Then they’ll consider you if there’s space. If you were in California, it’d be hell to get into a different school as a senior transfer. Few schools accept senior transfers. The priority would go to juniors. Then, the priority would go to UC students who wanted to transfer in the UC system. Then, they’d consider CSU students if there’s room…

My advice: stick to your current college, graduate, and get a job. Who says the next place would be better? How is your financial aid going to work out?

You should work hard and get out of there as soon as possible. Get into graduate school.

It’s easy to second guess your decision. I was a community college transfer and I thought of transferring myself since I felt like I could be at a more challenging school, but it’d just be stupid at this point if your only reason is you don’t like your school this late in the game. I’ve found it’s not that bad and since I’m so close to graduating, it’ll be fine and I’ll be in a different school this fall for graduate school.

I’m in California. I’m from here and going to school here.

But I do believe you made a point. I should probably just stay and get the best grades I can and try to make the best of it.
