Second, could you please check with your data base administrator to see if there is a way to make threads, that are certain “age” read only? Lately, there seems to be more and more really old threads surfacing to the top of certain forums. Often, these seem to be found by spammers.
I am not suggesting erasing said threads – simply making them read only.
I think locking threads after a certain age would be a great idea!
I agree for time sensitive things…but NOT for topics in the Parents Cafe that are NOT time sensitive at all.
A thread was closed today for MAY about engagement ring sizes. Lots of good info, and additional comments to be had on the topic. It is certainly not time sensitive like threads about financial aid or college,choices.
The engagement ring thread was a spam attractor. It sat dormant for months until a spam advertiser resurrected it. That is the reason it was closed. Old threads are also closed when they originally required attention of moderators. We will try to let older threads remain when possible.
Please remember that in a lot of cases, members are not aware of the time moderators spend in deleting posts or dealing with troublesome spammers. We don’t take actions arbitrarily. Sometimes, we are even working in the middle of the night, when we can’t sleep!
