Possible to Self-Study for APs??

I am going to be a junior this year in high school and planning to take the Bio AP exam. I'm taking a regular Bio class, but have also purchased Campbell and Reese's AP bio book and will buy some prep books as well. Will this be enough to receive a 4 or a 5 on the AP exam if I'm willing to study hard? Any tips from the self-studiers out there?
BTW: I'm homeschooled, so I am pretty familiar with self-studying for tests. However, this is my first AP, so I'm not sure what to expect.

Most definitely! The new format for AP biology exam has made it more into a science reasoning exam than a recall exam. With no studying at all, I managed a 4 this year. I did take the AP bio class but by the time the AP exam came around I had forgotten most of the info. So its very easy to pass the exam with little knowledge.

You should definitely be able to do well if you study hard. One of my friends got a 5 with some outside studying while taking Honors Biology.

Wow. Great! What about the AP Physics exam? I may try to self-study for that as well. ;)

Which AP Physics are you planning to self-study (1 and 2 or C)? 1/2 are algebra based, while C is calculus based.
I self-studied the Physics C Mechanics after taking 1 semester of physics and got a 5, but I haven’t taken Physics C E&M yet.

Either Physics 1 or 2. Whichever corresponds with Apologia’s Advanced Physics course. And great job on your exam!

I took the bio test, studied with Campbell and some prep books without taking the course and I got a 5. It’s feasible. But very difficult, and I don’t think that should go past your understanding.

I used the Campbell and Reese textbook in my class, and it has a lot of superfluous information. Something I’d recommend is getting the companion book to that textbook. It’s summarizes everything and is a lot less reading.

I took AP Bio last year, but it was pretty much self studying, so the prep book I would recommend is the Barron’s AP bio book and flash cards. I pretty much learned all the information for the AP Bio test a month before the AP exam, and I ended up getting a 5. Also, if possible, try to do the practice free-response questions avaliable on the college board website.
