Possibly going to Ole Miss?

SO. I'm from STL and have been going down to Oxford since before I was born (grandma lives there). I love the atmosphere and the campus. I also love Oxford, it has cute locally owned areas, then chain stores in restaurants. They have almost everything we have here (talking basics) just on a smaller scale.

Now. I am not preppy. I don't look forward to Greek life, of course I may change my mind. I'm sort of a geek, sometimes a hipster, and sometimes a hippie. But I can adapt to almost any situation without changing who I am. In high school I have many friends/acquaintances who are geeky, preppy, hipsters, gamers, basically at least one friend in every group. I am super open-minded and love different cultures, countries, ideas, and the like. I believe everyone is responsible for what they want to do and no one should hate on their choices.

Would I find people in Ole Miss? Are there geeky people out there that love Netflix and Doctor Who and "nerdy" TV shows and movies?

Of course you will. You will find everything, take for instance your high school, you just said you have atleast a friend from every ‘group’. I’m gonna assume your high school has between 100 and 2,500 kids. Out of that sample size, you already see many different types of people. Now take a college, Ole Miss, with 20,000 kids and think of all the different combinations of people and groups that form. Whatever you seek, you will find, that’s a guarantee. Also, Ole Miss is extremely rural, meaning people are on campus a lot more than at other schools, forcing you to meet even more people. Out of them you will be drastically different from many and strikingly similar to many. Don’t sweat it.

Hi @hananasplit13‌ I would concur with @Pikidikitiki‌ … There are ALL types of individuals at Ole Miss. Yes, there are preppy greeks, but there are gamers, “hipsters”, “nerds”, non-Greeks who are involved in campus activities. Go set up an official campus tour when classes are in session so you can see the campus in full bloom if you haven’t been able to do that yet. Kids hail from many foreign countries and states outside the South!

My daughter just spent a month at Ole Miss as part of their high school summer program and loved it. She is a Northerner from a large city who is not at all preppy, adores alternative music, is not interested in Greek life, is a movie buff, and would probably consider herself a hipster is she did not hate that term.

She loved Ole Miss and made many friends with similar interests as well as many who have different interests. She cannot imagine even applying anywhere else and has already been accepted to the Class of 2019. Quite a few of her summer college friends will be attending Ole Miss in Fall 2015 as well.

Hotty Toddy!
