Your daughter’s undergraduate GPA is going to be important in terms of what schools she can get into and how much law school will cost. We naively thought that everyone paid list price at law school which varies from about $55K at a state school to $100K at Columbia / NYU. Instead, law schools offer stronger applicants scholarships based on some combination of LSAT score and GPA leading to very different net costs. While where you went for an
undergraduate degree might have some impact on your initial career options - coming out of law school where you went to law school will be very, very important. If your goal is to be a Supreme Court Clerk for example you really need to have gone to one of the top 5 or so law schools. I’m sure that 5 years after law school or 15 years later your law school will have less impact on career options but initially it is very significant. There have been many, many unemployed or underemployed lawyers since the economic downturn of 2008/2009. The solution is to avoid the bottom 50 or so law schools altogether and to avoid leaving law school with $300K in debt.
