Post-College Opportunities (specifically-->Law School)

People always talk about how the recruitement is for top Law Schools from schools like Williams, Amherst, Princeton, Harvard, Yale, Cornell, etc.

But what about schools like Vanderbilt, Rice, Wash U, Emory, Pomona, Claremont McKenna.

I mean, is there more incentive to go to Williams if I get accepted than to go to Rice because it’s THAT much of a different, opportunity-wise?

Keep in mind I would like to attend one of the top 5 law schools, the question is whether I should sacrifice going to a school I prefer over a school that is ranked at the top of post-college law school opportunities?

Attend the school of your choice. Vanderbilt, Rice, Wash U, Emory, Pomona, Claremont McKenna are fine schools if you want to attend a top 5 law school.

Get a high GPA

Get a high LSAT

Those 2 factors are the most important aspects for law school admissions.

Yeah, but lets say I retain a (for argument's sake) 3.96 GPA and get an LSAT score in the top 10% of my class at Wash U.

Now, let's say another guy has the exact same stats, same major, etc, as me, except he goes to Williams.

Is it not true that the spot at a top 5 would be weighed in his favor?

The school you attend does play a role--a small role. You need to factor in the personal statement and any extracurricular activity that would set you apart from the Williams student. I'm not really familiar with Williams law school placement though.
