Post-Decisions Thread

Did anyone else get Christmas cards from their admissions officers? I got one today, with a note about how he liked my essay (I wrote about my messy room), and that he hopes my roommate can tolerate my "unique organizational style". I thought it was really nice that they did that.

Yeah, I did too. Mine congratulated me and wished me good luck in my senior year hockey season (hockey was my essay topic). Too bad we're 0-4. It was a nice gesture, though, especially because she specifically referred to my essay instead of just saying congrats. It was very thoughtful.

Well I haven't received a Christmas card yet, but yesterday I got a phone call! It was from a senior girl at MSB. We talked for a pretty long time about her experiences at Georgetown, along with a lot of other things... but now I really want a Christmas card! LOL. ;)

They probably have 50 illegal immigrants reading essays and writing little notes on cards, making them seem personal lol.

I got a Christmas card but it wasn't personal. It just said congratulations on your early admission, etc. etc.

I'm still wondering why exactly I got accepted- but I figure they have now sent me two pieces of mail stating I was, so I'm starting to think, OK, maybe I really HAVE been accepted!

I got a phone call yesterday too. Except I had to leave right when she called, so I could only talk to her for like 5 minutes.

I got the phone call tonight. We talked for about 20 minutes, and I made sure I covered everything. Apparently, that person was in the same situation I'm in :started w/ a major in govt, but wasn't too sure. Transferred to SFS sophomore year. I very well may be happy with the govt major, but it was good to hear that it is possible to transfer schools, if need be.

Awww, I want a card!

Hey Laurenh, I am also a Westchester Jew who applied to SFS, but I got differed. Would you mind giving me your stats? If you don't want to post them, just ask for my email address in a reply.

No problem

Basic Stats:
SATI: 1500 (790V, 710M)
SATII's: 770/770/760
GPA: About a 99 weighted
Rank: 4 or 5/425
ECS: Lots of student gov stuff, tons of initiative/leadership within it. 2 varsity sports (captain and letterer), lots of community service. Most of the things I do relate to student gov/shared decision making, so it's a pretty consistent passion.

Recs were pretty awesome, essays I have no idea. People say they're quite good but I hate everything I write.

HTH.

Wow, those stats are strikingly similar to mine, except for the rank. And while I am president and founder of a club, and vice president of a couple others, and a varsity athlete, I think the student government thing stands out a lot. 5/425, are you from WP?

Actually I'm not from Westchester- the guy who called me from Gtown was, but I live all the way out in Western NY.

I do think the student gov stuff helped a lot, only because it's not a typical "Yay, let's plan dances" student council. It's a shared decisoin making committee with the principals, teachers, parents etc. involved, and we work on a lot of student issues (like alcohol problems, students rights, dress codes, etc.) and district affairs with the Board of Ed (like searching for a new superintendent).

BTW- is Georgetown your first choice?

Yup, Georgetown is my first choice. I was first attracted because it had what I wanted program-wise, and then after I visited I totally fell in love with the school, the area, and DC.

Hey, does anyone know the general profile from the EA applicant pool? They haven't updated it on the website (and probably won't until Spring). I can find the EA profile of fall 2004 applicants, but nothing about us. Any help?

I don't think they have released it yet. I couldn't find it anywhere, either.

My counselor got mail from Georgetown saying I was accepted, and in the mail they had a chart with all of the decision stats. I'll ask for a copy on Monday for you all. In the meantime, I did see %s. Both the College and SFS had admit rates of 21%, even though the letter has 22. MSB had like 25 or so.

Well.. for those of the accepted Hoyas who went the journey with me..

In a completely unrelated string of events, I was accepted into the University of Notre Dame today. Which now makes me where I went wrong with Georgetown..

Hey, congrats, Tlak! UND is a great school.

PS- you guys, we need to post more. We have officially been beaten by MIT in number of posts. Let's reclaim our rightful spot! ;)

PS- Tlak: I hope you're not getting all "sentimental" on us! I am confident that you will be accepted in the Spring. Then we can make all sorts of fun memories at GTown to reflect on later in life. Stay strong! And I would say some inspiring motto of the ROTC here, but alas, I don't know any :D.

tlaktan, Congrats! That is some good news for you! I know you've been feeling down, but keep those spirits up!
