Post-deferral letter

I plan on starting a letter that I will send to the admissions office soon. The subject of the letter is mostly about what I've been doing since deferral, but since I haven't seen much information about post-deferral activity, does anyone have any suggestions?

I got deferred as well and when I emailed my contact in the College (Hum Ec) asking what I should do, she said the following:

“There are a number of things that we recommend that postponed applicants submit to supplement and update their applications. Certainly the Admissions Committee will need to see how your academic endeavors are progressing this year, so your midterm grades will be important. You can submit an additional essay regarding your interests in the program, and some students have additional letters of reference sent. These materials will help us know you better.”

I sent in a letter basically reasserting my desire to be at the college and showing a slightly different side of me than was in the original app. I also sent in a few additional recommendations. She also said it was important to send anything supplemental to the individual college admissions office you applied to as opposed to general and to make sure that anything additional sent in be labeled with your full name and birth date. This will make the processing easier.

Also, be warned that you should get it in ASAP, especially since you’re mailing it. They are reviewing apps en masse right now, so you need to make sure it gets there in time.

Hope this helps! Good luck.

Once again, talk about your fit, fit, fit!

it’s pretty tough to get in post-deferral; there were one or two colleges i desperately wanted to get into from which i was deferred. i focused all my time and energy into trying to convince them to let me in… i kind of wish i spent that extra time on my more viable options.

tell them you want in because the program is perfect for you, and you will be perfect for the program, but don’t get too bent out of shape over it.

Go for it.

My daughter was deferred last year, then sent in a letter and a new referral, and was accepted (and is attending).

That was the Hum Ec school, which I have heard is more likely to defer and will accept a higher number of deferrals than some of the other schools.

Good Luck!

My daughter was waitlisted and got in after submitting another packet - most recent transcript (her senior year grades were best ever), additional essay, another recommendation letter from her GC, 1 outside recommendation (her employer), and additional awards.

If you want to do anything, do it now or it maybe too late.
