Post-Katrina Tulane / Housing

hey yall, I was just wondering how the campus/ overall area of NOLA looks 3 years after Katrina. honestly. Does the damage affect the experience at anyway? ( i.e. transportation problems, limited social activity, etc)

thanks!

*p.s. *hows the surrounding area property wise, i hear alot of tulane students move off campus after their 1st year? Hows the affordability/location/ off campus safety?

The campus is in great shape as is the surrounding area. The areas of major damage from Katrina were far away from campus.

My D is just finishing her second year at Tulane. I do not believe her experience has been impacted in any major way by Katrina. Yes, there have been some minor impacts...and each day it gets better. The areas that a student would go to are all operating normally. The streetcar is up and running. Social activities are great.

Students are required to live on campus the first two years.

She is moving off campus next year. She did not have to...she just wanted to. There was plenty of supply of clean and nice apartments very near campus.

the best way to get an answer to your questions is...VISIT !

very very true on the visiting part
thanks for your help!

Living off campus at tulane is a dream because most kids rent out rooms in big old houses with wood floors and high ceilings, and it's way cheaper than living on campus. The areas around Tulane are really upscale, but somehow student housing is really affordable and the nightlife is close by. If anything, Katrina has somewhat enhanced the experience of Tulane kids because many are involved in community service in the storm-impacted areas and are finding out how the other half lives.
