For me....the entertainment value has been priceless... I couldn't have bought it! I will give you back your forum that you so graciously gave me well equipped with the answers I was looking for.

Well, there you have it. A troll. And now that he's been called out, he scurries back under his rock.

I agree with hammer5. this thread had some nasty moments but showed that the prep school that I send my son to will be filled with students that have parents with a deep sense of community. I will also be thankful for the FA we will receive that will allow our son to have such an amazing experience and I hope that one day he can in turn help another student afford the same experience.

Hey Skidad I must have really hit a nerve with you...maybe if you worked harder you could bypass a handout and provide for your family

You have to admit it has been a great debate and obviously folks cant get enough...because the "takers" keep on replying.
I could continue on forever..I dont need to scurry....I'll have my driver take me.

To bring the thread back on track, I applied for more than 50%FA. I was accepted with FA at two and waitlisted at one, because they do not have the FA. They told me that in the past, if there were a few extra students who were real standouts that they could go over what they planned to give out but there is no room for extra this year. They asked me to be patient because not all FA is accepted and that I could possibly get an offer from them before the 10th. The last school I applied to accepted me but without FA. They also said if FA became available they would offer it to me. So it was a real mix. All the schools said they had record applications so the competition was especially tough as well.

Oh, yes, bs4me...you truly have my number. If only I could be as preoccupied with money and status as you! Maybe then I would be truly happy.

But the truth is, it doesn't matter a whit. And the people here know it.

Now, I thought you said you were leaving...

I think, at this point, he is purposely saying that (along with all that Kenya luxurious resort thing) just to badger us.

Exactly, principalviola.

or, more accurately,bs4mebtnt4u; you also have provided some precious moments for us . You are a reminder that there is still a (small) group out there that believes opportunity should not be based on ability but simply on $. I wish you would let us know the school(s) your 5 generations of elitists have graced with their attendence/ I guess some of us could avoid attending and further rousing your ire.

hammer5, that's pretty good success rate - 2 out of 4 offered you FA. Do you not want to attend either?

I will be going to revisit days to decide and I am grateful to have a choice.

The Founding Fathers believed that there is no difference between a free society and an educated society. Our educational system, however, is woefully inadequate. How do you plan to restore education as a right and core cultural value in America?

A question for us to ponder about...

The Founding Fathers believed that there is no difference between a free society and an educated society.

They actually suggested that a free society would be impossible without an educated population. That's not really the same thing. Just btw....

Hence they are equal...

...? Uhh no. Just because A is not possible without B, does not mean A=B. A free society would also be impossible without a proper democracy, a free society would also be impossible without the abolishment of slavery, a free society would be impossible without religious freedom...a few examples. Therefore no, they are not equal.

Not sure how it was relevant in the first place, just wanted to throw that out there.

So then we either have an educated + free society or a not fully educated + nonfree society.

I still don't see what you're trying to get at. Let me put it this way for you. A simple way to point out a society that is not free, the press is usually stifled or under state control. The UK in the 20th century was an educated free society. Going by what you're saying the French were educated therefore they had a free society. Where as french newspapers and press were under almost full control of the government. The rest of the world saw what the French government wanted seen. Is that a free society? No. Where they educated? Yes.

So I'm not sure what you were trying to get at by butchering the words of founding fathers. Just wanted to correct that error. Proceed with the pondering :)

Not really... I said something that were the words of our fathers. You gave me a switch, and I gave two logical results of your words.

........I still don't know what you're talking about or what you're trying to get at with your responses.

I would try and respond to your "logical results", if it made any sense. But just forget about it.

Hammer5 that's really interesting and great news. Let us know if you hear back from them before the 10th. That would be great to have all options known before then. I'm curious to see if kids and parents hold onto their original impressions of schools once they revisit too...but that's probably another thread!

Thinking back over interviews/ acceptances /rejections.
Turned down outright at school where we thought things went best, good fit for kid.
Accepted at one school where things went just OK
Wait-listed at top choice school where one of only questions inerviewer asked my daughter was what did she think of Barack Obama. Thsi is great unless you happen to be a Republicani, and, I think, made the rest of the interview awkeard. This is not meant to cause political debate, as the question would have been awkward the other way if it was an Exeter interview and the interviewer had a Bush picture on his desk. (My older daughter attended this school so staff was somewhat familiar. Could who you draw to ask the questions make a big difference, all other things being equal? Just the kind of things we think about. Best of luck to everyone.
