"i'm thinking about taking an additional class such as LS2. what do you think? i'm planning to major in phy sci and minor in english (and possibly minor in spanish if time allows). should i take 4 classes my first quarter?"

No. That's the time to take it. Its the first course of the Chem series. You have to take it early since well you need it as a pre-requisite to other courses for your major.

Yes. I did it fall quarter for two classes. Its tiring but with careful planning (studying habits), you should find it manageable. That, and you'll find that you probably won't need the full 3 hours for your exam... at least from my experience.

They're not necessarily in the same room. It just depends and you'll find out at least the week before finals week for class locations.

ooh i have 1/2 an hr btwn 2 finals the same day.

math 3a 11:30-2:30
chem 14a 8-11am

has anyone done that b4?
[/quote]
Yes, that is fine, if not perfect. I've done three finals from morning to night and I was okay, so you should be too. For those two finals, you won't need all three hours. Probably 2 for the average test taker.

For your very first quarter, I'd avoid taking three finals in one day. You're still adjusting and you really don't want to taste the burn-out feeling post finals. Lets pretend you're the "average test taker" - for now, stick with 2.

3 is really pushing it. Even the seasoned CCer poster / comp sci major Flopsy posted that he would never do 3 finals again (I think he did this his sophomore or junior year). So yes please, take the first quarter to gauge your pain/exam threshold before doing something that could hurt you severely your first quarter. Not only that, it would be a significant blow to your academic self-esteem starting off at UCLA. Play safe fall quarter. Figure it out. Have some fun and push yourself the following quarters.

1) 2 final exams in a day for the average test taker
2) Boelter did 3 final exams in a day
3) Boelter was fine.
4) "I was OK but you should be too" ---> Boelter test-taking abilities ~ yours
5) Because of #1, more than 2 would be above average
6) Boelter took more than 2; he's above average
7) If Boelter's above average, you are too. How do we know that? :p esp since you're taking a fairly "average" schedule for an incoming freshman:

Are you this bored, Emmeline? HA. Delete my misleading post. I reread it, and I don't mean to one-up anyone.
Bottom line is that I don't think anyone who doesn't study everyday will be able to do fine with 3 finals in a day.
It's just for anyone who wants a challenge of discipline. But 2 is fairly doable, even back to back.

(and don't snythesize what I just wrote)

hey, i have not signed up for chem 14a yet; i hear that if i add chem 14a, i'll have quite a heavy load. is that true? but on the other hand, i really really want to get chem 14a over w/ b/c i feel like majoring in phy sci and minoring in english and/or a FL.

is it true that winter quarter chem 14a is easier or is this a myth?

so i decided not to add any classes for fall quarter.

if i already tested out of the FL requirement, do med schools still suggest me to take FL sometime in college? maybe this year b4 i forget all my spanish? i plan to live and work in california...
