Haha, Ayn Rand is the bomb, southeasttitan. But I guess you either love her or you hate her.

Here's a few of my favorites:

*A Soldier of the Great War/i --Though I haven't read it since I was 13 (which was probably too young for it)

Here Be Dragons, Falls the Shadow, and *The Reckoning/i

*Mansfield Park/i

*Period Piece/i

*Islandia/i -- the best utopic novel you've probably never heard of. :D

The Bean Trees and *Prodigal Summer/i

*Mysterious Island/i

I also really liked the Amelia Peabody series, by Elizabeth Peters. :)

The Kite Runner, A Prayer for Owen Meany, Pillars of the Earth.

anyone like 'fun' books?

^ Blasphemy!!

What counts as a "fun" book? I thought Period Piece was hilarious. It was written quite a while ago, though, so maybe that disqualifies it for being "fun."

And the Amelia Peabody series is definitely fun. It wasn't written for 10-year-olds... does that mean it's not "fun"? :p

i meant like u know.. hitchhiker's guide the ones that don't count as 'fun' are like war and peace

In that case I'd say there are plenty of fun books on people's lists. And a bunch of unfun ones, as well, but those can be good, too.

not really a book, but a play:

The Tragedy of Macbeth by William Shakespeare

Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov

In terms of poetry, I love Sylvia Plath, but I don't have one specific favorite out of her books and collections.

^ I'm reading Lolita! Love how lyrical it is.
btw, have you read Anne Sexton, Ms. Plath's cohort? Awesome poetry. :]

Not yet, but I've been meaning to. And I love meeting other people who've read Lolita. Unfortunately they all seem to be online instead of in real life (nothing against online people, but you can't converse the same way as you can in real life).

BAND OF BROTHERS
catcher in the rye
the divine comedy
of mice and men

the pact, angels and demons, the perks of being a wallflower

My all time favorites include:
Perks of Being a Wallflower
Lolita (I noticed people above like this one too)
Fight Club (really great, and what wolfnoir01 might consider a fun book)
Cat's Cradle
The Golden Compass

The Old Man and the Sea & Atlas Shrugged

Since we're talking about favorite books, I've been trying to think of the title to this one book that I really liked (I read it a really long time ago, like elementary school), but I'm totally blanking out. It has something to do with a family who lives in the woods and has their own pool of water that makes you immortal and then there's this girl that falls in love with one of the immortal guys and she wants to drink the water... Any ideas on the title? I'm driving myself crazy!

TUCK EVERLASTING!

What do I win?

Oh my gosh! Thank you, thank you, thank you! You saved me from going out of my mind. so you win...my everlasting thanks and the knowledge that I won't be crazy anymore (well, maybe...)

Eh, I guess I'll take it.

If I know that my action means there's one less spontaneous combustion of the brain in this world, then it's worth it.
