Post Your Winter 2008 Schedule:

Felker's 10:00am?

Chem 14B
Chem 14BL
Hist 1A
Math 3B

I have Pang, too :X

So... I have at least 20 small books to purchase... and then about 7 and then a Vorsprung. Very nice! Yay! My complete booklist isn't even up yet.

i get to buy... two-three books this quarter

i've got... two pricey hardbacks, and three books under $30 each. used books still make it $218. screw you ucla store. i refuse to pay over $100 for any single book!!!

is in very miffed mood due to extenuating circumstances and self-induced over-procrastination

Well, UCLAESTORE lists my booklist at $339 and that's without the other two classes. Lawl. At any rate, I'm just going to reserve books through YRL & Powell now.

ew... that's disgusting.

Hey guys, for winter I'll be taking:

math3b
chem14b
arts and art of ancient greece, classics 10 < apparently pretty easy
fiat lux

What do you guys think about the workload if I added another GE? I'm considering Women's Studies just for the hell of it. Anyone have any input about that class?

I had math3a, chem14a, eng comp3 and a fiat lux this quarter and it was a lot easier than I had expected.

mme-lin, reserve? Not planning on buying any of them? Are any of your books actual "textbooks", if that makes any sense at all.

Hey, are you taking Popa or Pravda?
And which lecture of Chem are you planning on attending?

i think i posted something about my winter schedule earlier but, turns out it isn't gonna happen and i have no idea what i'm taking yet. lol. for now i'm signed up for

chem 154
a random UD elective in some discreet branch of science and is currently unscheduled (i know, i know, you're all wondering why i would sign up for a class that's unscheduled but, i was desperate and it fulfills my major req and i'm just hoping its one of the few classes that is NOT on TR from 10-12...)
and a 2 unit, pass/no pass honors class

and i'm short a unit.... :-(

Pink - Popa, one hour gap, then the 10 o clock chem lec. I'm enrolled in the 5:30 lecture though LOL!

Input on women's studies anyone?

What's the point of taking a fiat lux if you have enough units with the two GEs?

It's kinda like you only had two real classes (math and chemistry), yeah? I've heard people say WS 10 is easy. I haven't taken it personally.

No. Most of my stuff isn't textbooks. Actually, I'm not even sure if I have textbooks required. I'm taking two upper-divisions. For survey courses, one is more likely to have textbooks. This is not true of S. Campus, of course. I'm going to buy a few of mine if I cannot check them out through YRL or Powell. For textbooks, you can often check out textbooks that have been reserved for the class; the check-out period is 2 hours.

mrMOO, I suppose I'll be seeing you at 8 am every morning. I'm going to attend the noon lecture for chem though, seeing as I have history at 10.

mme-lin, I'm taking the fiat lux because I think it is interesting. I had a fiat lux this quarter and loved it. Yeah, I pretty much had 2 real classes. My eng comp 3 class was a total of about 300 pages of reading for the whole course and 3 essays of 5-7 pages, so it was pretty easy, but I learned A LOT in that class.

pink, I'll be in the front, I ALWAYS sit in the front for 3a and I'll be doing the same for 3b.

so it was pretty easy, but I learned A LOT in that class.

You're an outlier for this one.

Save me a seat, mrMOO! And poke me when I start nodding off.

Wait. Were you that guy I met at the Regents thing...?

mrMOO...DON't take classics 10 unless you are seriously interested in it......I'm in it now and it's not exactly slaughtering me, but is still definitely my most stressful class :(

question for anyone taking japanese: How hard are the placement tests? Is it possible to self-learn enough to test out of 1 and 2? Also, do they offer anything like Japanese 4,5 and 6 combined over the summer?

Boelter, I think I was just lucky to have a good Professor, Fallows. Bruinwalk him, his stats are AMAZING on there, and they are true.

Pink, I dont think I've met you at any regents thing before, but I was at that CC meet-up during zero or first week, but you left like 5 mins after I came.

Tonks, I generally find myself interested with almost any subject. The problem with me is that I get lazy to do work, so as long as there is not a lot of "busy work" that the prof makes you do JUST to keep you busy, then I'll be fine. Why was it your most stressful class?

I just added the Women's Studies GE. Hopefully it goes well, if not I can always just drop it within the first 2 weeks right?

well, it's not really busy work......there's just a ton of reading...and if you don't space it out, you're left with a load to read just before midterm/final...

I was just bummed because every time I wanted to read an actual book, like a novel, I would think 'I should be reading classics instead'

but on the plus side, there is no hw....unless your TA is weird like mine was and assigns hw anyway

Hey MrMoo, I think that you were just lucky to have an easier composition theme for Fallows.

You don't really learn anything at all in English Composition 3, and you can verify that with anyone about that. Possibly any subsequent writing courses, but not this one! You just go through the reader, discuss it, watch a few funny clips, write essays, get them back and revise again. The only useful time is the group revision, and even with that, you don't dramatically improve your writing style ..

Bruinwalk is filled with amazing stats for him because he gets praised for being easy, for his charisma, his theme (pop culture) is easy to relate to, and because he loves to use profanity.

I had him too .. and I wouldn't have learned anything extra if I had another professor .. kind of a waste of time but everyone gets As .. and that's what everyone cares about nowadays ... so yeah !
