I just recieved an envelope from Carleton that contained a pamphlet about Chemistry at Carleton and a postcard as well.
The postcard was a not written by "Meg Atten, Assoc. Dean" and it basically said that she had read my application...she thought my essays were good...and it ended with "Admissions decisions will be made by the end of March. In the meantime, thought you might want to read about Chemistry at Carleton."
I was wondering if this is something in the lines of something that Carleton sends to every applicant after they read their application or not

My daughter received a couple of similar postcards and, FYI, three years later, she is now an extremely happy Carleton junior majoring in geology. So, although there are no guarantees, I think that the postcard is a positive sign.

Bigben: The chemistry department at Carleton ROCKS! The have the BEST professors and a VERY closeknit group of majors. I'm biased - junior D is one of 23 chem majors in class of 2008. She knows every single chem professor extremely well and is challenged and passionate about each course she's taken in the department. She's technically done with the major requirements (except comps) after this trimester, but is looking to take many more of their chem courses. Professors do bring the material to life! Good luck!

The frequent mailings from Carleton during the "black hole" period from Jan 1st to April 1st were very well received by both my daughter and my husband and me.
The "if you were here, this is what you would be doing" postcards were especially effective. I can echo Maize& Blue's sentiment- my daughter is EXTREMELY happy at Carleton ( we live in New England).

This sounds hopeful to me. I wish my son had gotten something like this from Carleton (he did from Oberlin, also a great school).

Carlmom, I feel like I might know your daughter. What state are you from?
