Sorry for putting this so blunty, but I’ve heard that a lot of people at UVM do pot frequently and I don’t have anything against people who do it, but the smell of it literally make me throw-up. UVM is one of my top schools and I really like it so I was wondering, is the smell of pot prominent in dorms, if yes, is there substance/drug free housing available? I’m really concerned about this because if there isn’t some kind of drug free housing, I honestly have to
rule UVM out.

For any school you are considering, I would recommend you research the school’s website, specifically the student housing information. All large schools have substance free living options. For smaller schools, it is more difficult to have separate substance free housing.
Additionally, once you have chosen a school, be honest when filling out your housing questionnaire.

I would strongly suggest you research the housing options at all the schools you are considering. This type of information is readily available. Most large schools have substance free living options. For smaller schools it is more difficult to have separate housing.

@Themclos , do you know if the UVM housing questionnaire specifically asks about drug use? And yes, I have visited but I didn’t pick up on any of this while I was there, it wasn’t until a friend whose brother is attending UVM brought it up that I started looking more into it.
I do not know the questions the UVM housing application asks, but at all the schools I have seen, and at those others I know have seen, all ask about smoking (cigarettes) and drinking habits. If living in substance free housing is important to you, I suggest you reach out to any school you are considering and inquire about the options available to you, and whether or not availability is guaranteed.
UVM and Burlington are liberal, and fairly laid back.
You might want to spend a night at some point as well and try to get a feel for the after hours scene.
