Potential Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholars

Yes, it was March 7th.
Best luck to everyone!

I can’t imagine the feeling of reading that email.

Hopefully we get to live it!

Is 34 a typical score for the Cornelius Vanderbilt scholarship or a minimum?

@WolfGang19‌ I understood it to be a minimum. There are some with that score and some that have higher.

The amount of time I spend thinking about this is probably unhealthy. Only one more month! Do the emails get sent out at a specific time during the day or is it random?

@JacobDF96‌, I recommend that you find something fun to focus on so you don’t agonize on this for a month.

After DS submitted his CV application, he just didn’t think about it anymore and got busy looking for other local scholarships. We didn’t expect it or look for it. That is why we were surprised to get the e-mail out of the blue.

In fact, it was during another scholarship interview when DS received this glorious e-mail.

I’ve got school and tennis to keep me distracted, so hopefully the month will go by pretty quickly. Of course I’ll be a little disappointed if I don’t get it, but I really just want to know where I’m going to college. This scholarship decides that, so even if I don’t get it, at least I can focus on one school and start getting excited to go there!

So if it’s a 50/50 chance with those scores, does anyone know how many students are offered these scholarships? And does that 50 percent include other smaller merit scholarships or only Cornelius? Thanks!

@Musicmom2015 , here’s what was published a couple of years ago back on March 7th, 2011:

“Beginning today, we will notify recipients of the Cornelius Vanderbilt and Chancellor’s Scholarship awards by both e-mail and letter. Applicants who were not selected for either program will only receive an e-mail notification. A total of 56 Chancellor’s Scholarship and 143 Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship offers have been made. Please note that decisions regarding Cornelius Vanderbilt recipients who have applied to the Blair School of Music are still being finalized. Recipients will be notified beginning later this week.”

This is from last year’s applications

Thanks @Sophie1295 , I found that after I posted the other year but it is actually good to compare both. I find it interesting that in comparing the two years, the number of Chancellor and CV scholarships went down. Would be nice to see a five year trend if anyone had the data.

Thanks so much! Do some kids who don’t get selected get smaller merit awards? Fingers crossed!

Wow, last year only 132/4600 were selected. Those are incredibly low odds. Such a shame how 97% of the applicants, who are all incredibly gifted and have incredible resumes, will receive no merit aid.

Does anyone know if Geography plays a role? How do they feel about New Yorkers?

@Disneydad‌ I don’t think geography plays a role for this scholarship.

Thanks. Keeping fingers crossed.

@disneydad maybe my small Mississippi hometown juxtaposed with my resume will seem more impressive

We all try to play our strengths.

Does anyone know if visiting Vandy or Alumni interview can help your chances with this scholarship?
