Hello. William and Mary was my top choice last year, and I was wait listed but didn't get in. I haven't been super happy at my current school, so I applied in as a transfer student. I got in! But, there are some similarities between W&M and my current school.
I am a nerd, and at my current school I feel like I'm in high school again. I feel like an outcast. So, I need to know that I won't feel like I'm hiding at W&M. I am not a partier and am a bit introverted.
I really want a great college experience, but if I'm just going to feel like a looser outcast again at W&M, then I might as well stay at my current school.
I would really appreciate anything anyone has to say about this.

Congratulations! My son transferred from UVa to WM after his third semester. They do a very good job of integrating transfer students. My advice to you is to get involved in something, whether it be study groups, a club, sports, volunteering, whatever, so that you can meet people with shared interests. From my limited observations, WM is not a party school.

That’s good to know. I am just worried about making such a big leap and not have anything improve.

Congratulations on your acceptance! I am a parent and I would like you to know that our non-partying, introverted S just finished his 3rd year.Every year he has told us W&M was the best fit for him. He has a great group of like-minded friends and feels no pressure socially. While I cannot predict how your experience will be,I suspect it may be more positive than that at UVA. S chose W&M because he knew that the atmoshpere at UVA wasn’t for him.It is for many , but wasn’t for him.

Congratulations @haylin606 on your acceptance! I don’t know if you’ve made your choice yet, but I think W&M would be a good fit for you. It’s funny that you mention that, because it seems that if anything, W&M is known for its “nerdy” students, whether that be in what they’re studying or something totally random like Doctor Who. The people and inviting atmosphere was part of the reason I chose the school. Coincidentally, I will be on campus next semester as well so if you need anyone to talk to you can seek me out.

One example of this so-called nerdiness is on one of the incoming freshman’s class pages, there are often phillosophical discussions that a bunch of students participate in - such as “What is beauty?” At other times, there have been discussions about creative writing, music, food, you name it. On other pages, it often seems like people are interested in soley “partying” (or so they introduce themselves) and aren’t as interesting as the people you might find at W&M.

I think you will fit in well here, and if you do end up choosing it, feel free to message me so we can talk more!
