Potential transfer to Oxy

So I’m a freshman at my state school and am interested in transferring to Occidental College. I now realize that I want a smaller school with a quieter environment. Occidental has about 2000 students while my current school has 30,000. In my first semester as of now I’m probably carrying around a 3.2 gpa, however no official transcripts have been released. My high school grades were good. I finished with a 90-91 average and as for my SATs: 660 CR 610 Math 660 Writing. Do I have any shot at getting into Oxy for my sophomore year? I also had many extracurriculars in high school and I’m on debate team at my school now. I’m not interested in hearing the obvious (e.g try to get your grades up, what about occidental do you like, etc…) I just want to know my chances based on my credentials that I’ve told you all.
Thanks

your chances should be decent. you should contact their admissions team and ask them your questions. I think they have min standards (which the 3.2 exceeds), but you can look into that.

Hey hello, I just transferred to oxy this year from a state school as well. I had a 3.9 GPA (34 credits) and a 29 ACT score but pretty average high school grades. If you have a good reason for transfer, there’s a good chance you’ll be accepted. I think the good rule of law with transfer applications is to be positive and talk about the things your previous school gave you, and the things a new college could offer you. In my application to Oxy I talked a lot about the atmosphere on campus and about diversity, sustainability, and the small classroom sizes.

I think you’ve got a decent chance, if you need any other help shoot me a message!
