This is just for fun, but has anyone really thought about sending prank college essays to top colleges (or any colleges at all)?

For example, at the end of junior year, I thought it would be funny if I wrote an essay on pokemon and connected it to my life, made it seem sophisticated, and sent it to an easy-to-get-into-college and a top college ;)

One day, I heard stories on this same thing being done. But I want to know is there anyone here who has done it/ knows anybody who did it/ knows a story of a person who did it?

While I would certainly advise against such a practice I know of at least two people who successfully received admission into Yale and Princeton respectively by writing a humorous – albeit sophisticated – essay. Now, I must point out that both were exceptionally talented writers. Unless you feel that you have an exceptional writing ability, it would be very hard to pull off something like that.

Did you know that you can win $10,000 in scholarship money and many other prizes by winning the yearly Pokemon world championships? Its quite difficult though. Surely these winners have had Pokemon be heavily connected to their lives.

@shawnspencer joke college essay. Yknow, like everyone tries a lot (and good for them) and they have stellar essays on crazy (albeit cool) stuff they have done or are just really deep reflectors.

BUT, how about that kid who thinks about something mundane but adds a lot more humor to it.

@Blake8 lol I know and was kinda excited when I heard about it years ago. Then I saw that you actually needed to play by the rules for the card game so that was the end of that and for electronic games, I saw some ppl that either use hacks or just have WAY too much free time lol.

I wrote a humorous but genuine essay about being a germaphobe and trying to fix a vacuum…

As long as you’re genuine in your writing, humorous essays are fine. You would, however, be wasting your own time and the time of those reading your application if you sent in an essay “as a joke”.
