<p>I just wanted to know if anybody has anything more on these two particular dorms since for one - there doesn’t seem to be that much on Prather other than it’s ‘‘quiet’’.</p>
<p>I plan to check out all the dorms in a week or so. You live in Texas, you should too :).</p>
<p>I have a friend who lives in Prather. I’ve not been in it myself, but I know she doesn’t like it at all. </p>
<p>She told me that it’s almost completely male (which I guess is a con for her) and that it’s extremely quiet - but her biggest complaint is that it’s very old - her hall flooded during the fall and she had to stay in a hotel for the night. She also mentioned security issues, but I can’t really attest to the validity of that. </p>
<p>Personally, I like the old look and the location of Prather, but I don’t go to UT so I’m just passing on an anecdote.</p>
<p>Really? A dorm full of a bunch of really quiet guys. hehehe</p>
<p>Well, I’ll take note of that. I like a place with character but if it’s…the kind that’s falling apart with age…maybe not. </p>
<p>I really want to get out there and see them for myself!</p>
<p>My daughter lived in Prather this year. She had a very good experience there. It was quiet, but the people were friendly. A water pipe did rupture this year, but luckily for her, it was the floor below her. I’m not sure how UT handled people’s damaged property. She posted a video of it on utube. I believe that’s something that could happen anywhere, regardless of the age of the building. The bathrooms were kept very clean and she shared 2 showers and 2 bathroom stalls with 8 girls total. She never said she had any problems with bathroom crowding. She got a great roommate and they’re going to live in Roberts next year since it has more upperclassmen.</p>
<p>San Jac has suites and private bathrooms, unlike Prather. You either want your own bathroom and are willing to clean it or you pick a community bathroom dorm like Prather where you’re assured the bathrooms will be cleaned every day. Community bathroom dorms are also cheaper.</p>
<p>A pipe burst over my dorm room at SRD my senior year. We were surprised to learn that the dorm is not obligated to cover ANYTHING. We should have had renters’ insurance. Hardly any of my stuff was hurt, but my roommate lost a good bit. That reminds me I need to call our agent and get insurance for our son!</p>
