Pratt Regular Decision 2019

@cassidyls i saw that someone was already accepted for film in like the 2nd or 3rd of the forum. i’m not sure how they’re releasing decisions but it seems like they’re releasing it by program. i could be wrong!!

@sydrast yeah idk i emailed them, thier not great at responding but i’ll let you know what they say but hopefully by then we will get the decisions and they will be acceptances lol

My daughter got into Pratt illustration and was waitlisted at Parsons. She is in love with Pratt, always has been, but even with the scholarship it’s out of our reach. This is such a difficult time of year! So many highs and lows.

I was surprised by the Parsons decision. I’d assumed she would have gotten in, but without aid (from what I’ve seen and heard, they don’t usually give a lot of aid)–a “soft rejection.” Honestly, that would have been more difficult TBH.

Hello all! I’ve been watching this discussion for a bit so I thought I’d chime in. I got accepted to Pratt for illustration about a week ago and a couple days later they sent me an email with scholarship info-- 26k a year!! I’m pretty sure that’s the highest scholarship they give, but even with that I’d have to come up with over 20k every year just to go and my mom doesn’t think the debt can be justied. Kinda sucks but I’m still hopeful (fingers crossed!)

Applied to a few other schools and got accepted with pretty decent scholarships (all 20k+) but I’m dead set on going to Pratt. (Btw the other schools were Massart, Uarts, CIA, and PCAD. Didn’t bother applying to any other big schools just because I knew I wouldn’t go anyway, I couldn’t afford the application fee, or I knew they wouldn’t offer much aid)

Curious as to what kind of scholarships you all received and how you plan to pay the rest?? Could really use some insight/advice rn!!

@ArtHead Hello! Congrats on the scholarship! I got the 26k from Pratt too! However even with it the tuition is so high! XD I also applied and got accepted to PCAD and I got their highest presidential Scholarship which was only 2k a year (I was so surprised because I was expecting more). PCAD gave me 4k in grants as well but still over 23k a year due to dorm! My cheapest option right now is Pratt MWP, I got a 17K scholarship, a additional 1k scholarship and a 6k grant! Most likely going to Pratt MWP for illustration! I also applied to UARTS and received 24k a year but the tuition was still high and no grants what so ever and was denied the full tuition scholarship :frowning: . Did you get into Pratt MWP? It would be the cheapest choice plus PCAD at second place!

Has anyone heard yet for drawing or painting? My child is still waiting to hear. Has some acceptances elsewhere but would love to be in Brooklyn. Good luck to all who are still waiting, and congrats to those who’ve been accepted.

@gestalt37 My daughter was accepted for painting on Monday, but a fellow painter friend of hers hasn’t heard back yet.

Congrats @Chuckymilokilo ! that is a great amount for scholarships.
D had done EA for Pratt Brooklyn and MWP. Brooklyn deferred her but MWP was always her first preference (for cost and smaller environment) so looks like its MWP here. Of all the schools she applied so far this is coming to least expensive for us too. Same with UARTS and PARSONS - a 24K but still costing a lot! However she only got 15K for merit scholarship and thats all - no other scholarship. What is the extra 1K that you got? We got some 5K from FAFSA. Still to hear the final scholarship from MICA but given the max amount they had written MWP still seems to be the financially reasonable thing for us to do.
I can’t believe the amount of money we are talking here!! and how we are expected to pay.

Congratulations to all those who received the good news and hoping the rest hears them soon!

@Chuckymilokilo Wow, we have alot in common! I actually misspoke in my last post about every school giving me 20k+ – totally forgot that PCAD only gave me 2k in scholarship + the 4k grant as well until you mentioned it! Right now it’s still the most affordable option but I reaallly don’t want to go there (It’s just a little TOO small for me haha)

I also went to the Uarts scholarship competition and was denied (which kinda surprised me because my interviewer made me think my chances were really high) Not too disappointed though just because I was unsure if I actually wanted to go there in the first place so now all my options are still open  Wonder if I saw you there!

I actually never looked into Pratt MWP as an option, which I really regret :frowning: I know it’s a lot cheaper, but how else does it differ from the main campus?? Is the illustration program comparable to Pratt Main? Really wish I had done some research on it ahead of time cause it sounds like a great alternative!

At this point I have no clue where I’m gonna go if Pratt doesn’t work out lol

@SomaRathore Congrats! The extra 1k is a PrattMWP Endowed Scholarship which is given to students who have high stats and are in need financially. I think I’m heading to Pratt MWP! It’s the cheapest art school option for me, I also applied to regular schools that are cheaper but I rather go to art school! I can’t believe art school so expensive too!! Even with aid and scholarship there’s no way I can afford Pratt Brooklyn, UArts, Moore, PAFA, and PCAD! I am very grateful that Pratt MWP is a option!

@ArtHead I went to visit PCAD and it was so small but everyone was nice! My parents didn’t like it cause it was so small and that you get dizzy from the smell of the paint due to no windows in alot of areas in the building. It also so cramp and the only way to go somewhere with air is across the street to their small park. XD I actually cried when I recieved the letter that I wasn’t a winner of UARTS Scholarship. However I was seeing my options and I was like why was I crying if I have Pratt MWP and other colleges! Awe it’s so sad you didn’t research on PrattMWP :frowning: hope Pratt gives you lots of merit! There is a school in Scranton called Marywood University which offers BFA Illustration it’s is my second choice if Pratt MWP doesn’t turn out well. I would rather go to art school due to networking! I heard the classes at Pratt MWP were the same just your in Utica not Brooklyn! XD I hope everything turns out well for you!

@Chuckymilokilo The situation is similar here with the expenses. D has offers from non art schools which could work out a little bit better (The meal plan is wayyyy to0 expensive in MWP compared to other schools :frowning: ) but she wants to go to an art school and that too the NYC always had been her first choice. MWP works out in many ways.
In regards to your comment about small campus, if the small cramped bothers you ,make a visit to MWP. They are so small and I am a bit worried about my D. She seems to be fine so far considering they relocate to Brooklyn and its just two years. The high school she goes to has a huge campus with almost 3000 students so its going to be quite an adjustment in that term. However we are trying to see the convenience esp in that weather, that the smaller the walks outdoors the better. The studios are good size considering the student teacher ratio is just 10:1 sometimes even 7 kids in a class they said. The town itself pretty much has nothing and there is nothing to do near the school. NOTHING! they have gym which they said is free for the students which is walking distance and a thrift store a couple of blocks away. Not sure if it was the piles of snow around or what, but the surroundings are cute but bleak
They do offer free shuttles on saturdays to take the student to the mall area and movie theater. We are assuming the kids wont get much time to wander around with the work load esp during the week. But we did need to make the visit just to be prepared that she knows where she is going and okay with the situation. She is. And the students can always pull to use Uber and Lyft. We are discussing how its only 3.5 months each semester which will go by fast hopefully.
Not sure where you are but for D the travel is not going to be easy either. We are in Texas and the closest airport to Utica is an hour away (Syracuse) and 1.5 hours away (albany) with hardly any straight affordable flights from here. They DO NOT have a shuttle from school to the airports. So group Ubering or bus or train are the only options. BUT, i loved the warm friendly staff and it really seemed like the teachers and the students bond very well there. Studios are well updated and yes they do the same things and classes as Brooklyn. I have nothing to compare it to but the student work we saw were pretty impressive.
Still waiting on the final MICA scholarships before we make the MWP final

@ArtHead Have you ever looked at DCAD in Delaware? It is a feeder school for Pratt. It’s a 2-year school - and then you would finish out the third and fourth years at Pratt
I think it may also have rolling admissions, so it may not be too late

I emailed the undergrad program about transfer applicants decision and they told me the decision should be coming out next week, which I assume it’s the same for regular decision. However, if you didn’t get the decision after April 1st, you should Email them about it. Good luck everyone

@yunbw wow they responded to you but not me smh lol

I emailed admissions to see when they would respond about the waitlist (I have other deadlines for my back-up college that are due in May and I’m sure some of you guys do too) and whether it would be early May or more towards June, I’ll let everyone know what they say when I get an email back. If I don’t end up getting in this year, I think I might try to transfer next year… I dunno we’ll see what happens I guess

@cassidys I’m not sure who you emailed, but I was in contact with one of the admission officer for a while. So, that might be the reason I was able to get an email lol. We just have to wait at this point

@Chuckymilokilo Thanks for all the info and the well wishes! Glad MWP worked out for you, and I’ll definitely keep looking into other options although I would still prefer to go to an art school as well!

@Britmom5 Wow, never heard of it but it sounds like a great opportunity! I’ll definitely look into it, thanks
