@awaitingoffers I would suggest you contact the Financial Aid office to confirm they have your info. We did and learned that Admissions had the incorrect SSN for my daughter (off by one digit) so Financial Aid never was notified and thus didn’t pull her FAFSA which we had filed last fall. Good luck!
@Fashionmama : thanks for the suggestion. We have been reluctant to contact any of the schools Financial Aid/Admission offices thinking things are still shaking out and don’t want to seem pushy however son needs to make a decision soon on the ARCH programs and money is a huge issue! UGH! We’ve heard from all of the schools although FA except Pratt. (cooper/cmu/risd/Syracuse/UVA/NE). I think I will call and see what they say. Thanks!
Did you get these Financial Aid notices via email? or in the normal ( snail) mail? Thanks !
@sydrast XD And in 4 years it’s going to be 80k or more! I have no idea how people could pay such big tuitions. :-: They should offer more grant because with this tuition they should have enough funding. XD
Really disappointed! I wanted to appeal to Pratt Brooklyn but I doubt I’ll get anything. It’s really upsetting because many students work hard in their portfolio and dream of going to art school and their dreams are crushed due to the giant tuitions.
@jameschen
I still am considering MWP due to it being my only art school option I can really afford. I heard that too! I am going to visit next week and will be posting my experience on this thread. I saw some campus photos and the buildings look so beautiful and there’s a train near by to go to other cities, including NYC. I know many people who visited upstate NY and saying it’s beautiful. Syracuse is nearby and Albany, and I heard the MWP art museum has amazing art. You also get alot of attention from your professors due to a small amount of students. I will post my experience from my campus tour next week on this thread.
@awaitingoffers I got mine in the mail in a small envelope. It took a while to get to my home even though I live close by Pratt but USPS is always slow. XD
@Chuckymilokilo Thanks for your info. and look forward your experience report~
Is the admission offer email supposed to contain information about financial aid as well? Or do they send a separate email to inform you about grants?
My son received an additional letter about his merit scholarship (check our junk folders) but nothing for FA yet but we hear it’s coming in the mail. fingers crossed but I will call and ask today .
how can I decline the offer? can’t find it on their website. there are only enrollment deposit and housing deposit option ? confused
@ArtHead Howdy! I am a DCAD and Pratt Alum, and I also work for DCAD’s Admissions Department. I’m originally from a small hickabilly town in Maryland, and Pratt was my dream school. The only problem, cost! When discussing this issue with my high school art educator, she recommended I check out the Delaware College of Art and Design. DCAD is a two-year art and design college with 5 majors, animation, illustration, fine art, photography and graphic design. I was a photo major and transferred seamlessly as a junior at Pratt. I also qualified for some hefty scholarships when I transferred. I strongly recommend checking out DCAD, it might make sense!
DD just accepted off waitlist for Brooklyn today, with decent merit award! So there is some movement. Our decision is now between Pratt, PrattMWP, SAIC, one small liberal arts college, and one large public out west. All are great in their own different ways. Will be visiting Utica and Brooklyn this weekend. Good luck to all.
@pickpocket D also just accepted off waitlist for Broolklyn! Amazing~~~Good luck to all the kids!
Anyone go to the Admitted STudents Weekend and if so can you please share some insights? Info? Did it help you commit? Son is still trying to make a decision and we weren’t able to attend. Thanks in Advance!
@awaitingoffers I went and it was incredible!! I was/am already committed to Pratt despite the cost (I actually picked up a job to earn some extra cash-- might be getting a second one soon), but it definitely helped convince my mom. When we arrived, I was super impressed with the campus, but I was also instantly comfortable, which is saying something since I come from a small town and Pratt is in a major city. Safety is a top priority for them and I could tell. Felt perfectly at ease and I’m typically a very anxious person. Also loved NY in general!
Best part for me was the tour-- I genuinely think we got the best tour guide ever!! She was so knowledgeable and helpful!! Learned so many cool things!! For example, Pratt’s career counseling center is available to you for as long as you live, so if 40 yrs after you graduate, you decide to change your career, they’ll still be there for you and will give you all the same resources as the current students!!
Aside from that, Pratt has tons of resources in general for there students. For example, since Pratt is an art school, they assume you will be spending the money normal uni students spend on books on art supplies instead, so you never have to buy textbooks at Pratt! If a professor can’t provide a free online textbook, than it’s required that the textbook be available in the library so students can take pics of the pages or scan/print them! Every student also gets a free Adobe subscription, so the software (ie.photoshop) is free!
As for the facilities, they were all spacious, well lit, and in decent shape. No toxic paint smells either, so they’re well ventilated!
I could say so much more, but it would take forever! Just know that my mom and I both fell head over heels in love with Pratt!! My sis is into art as well but she said she wouldn’t want to go to art school. This experience changed her mind lol. In her words: “I don’t know what I’m going to do but I have to go here!”
Hoped this helped!!
@awaitingoffers ALSO forgot to mention, I found out that class sizes cap at 12 despite the large student population, so everyone gets the attention they need!
@Chops87 thanks for the info!!
@ArtHead : thanks much! Appreciate the info!! Sounds like you found your dream school. Glad its even better in person! I can’t remember the dorms too much…i’ll have to see if we can find pics online.
My son is majoring in ARCH but is a big ART dude too so we/he thinks it’s the right fit. His only drawback when we toured was the lack of Drama/theater group but the guide assured him he could start his own group…in his spare time. LOL.
Thanks again for sharing your experience!
@awaitingoffers No problem! I’ll admit, from what I saw the dorms are nothing special, but each dorm building has studio space in the basement which I appreciated! Also regarding clubs, our tour guide told us it’s super easy to start your own. I think all you need is 5 members and a professor who can oversee it or something…? I could be wrong but it’s something like that! Your tour guide probably told u all about it lol.
Hope your son finds the right match for him if Pratt doesn’t work out!
