Here is a really nice article in Forbes Magazine, of all places. [Tulane’s Devon Walker: My Sportsman of the Year - Forbes](Tulane's Devon Walker: My Sportsman of the Year) Even nicer, IMO, and also extremely worth reading is the article he wrote about 2 weeks after the incident [Life at Tulane isn’t the same without Devon Walker. | SportsonEarth.com : Tommy Tomlinson Article](http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/38717336) It gives another set of insights into Devon and his relationships than most of the other articles I had seen. Not sure how I missed this one last year.

Just a reminder for those who might be interested. Tomorrow from 7-9 PM Eastern time on ESPN are the College Football Awards. Devon will be receiving the Disney Spirit Award.

Resurrecting this thread because there was a very recent excellent follow up article by Sports Illustrated.

From Tulane via the Saints:

@bajamm - That is really great. I read in another article that Devon had no idea. The Saints and Tulane people involved pretended they were having him at Drago’s for oysters and surprised him with the contract. What a classy move from a classy organization. Mr. Benson, the owner, and his wife are also great supporters of Tulane. Which is especially fun since he is a Loyola (NOLA) grad! I imagine he is generous to them in other ways. Anyway, excellent move on their part.

Part 3 of the T-P series:

http://www.nola.com/tulane/index.ssf/2014/05/tulanes_devon_walker_locks_in.html

spine fracture? Holy ****, god forbid he does not become paralyzed. Those nerves are sensitive parts…

@Jarjarbinks23 - I am not sure what you mean. Devon is paralyzed from the shoulders down, at least as I would use the word. He apparently can occasionally wiggle a finger or toe, so I don’t know technically what his current state is called medically, but he cannot walk and he cannot use his arms or hands, so to me that is paralyzed.

Anyway, just another observation is that I have seen probably 100 articles about Devon signing with the Saints. Everywhere from the small town press in various Louisiana towns to articles in USA Today, Newsday, ESPN, and outlets in Singapore, the UK, and other overseas press. It really created a lot of buzz.

Personally I thought the segment was far too short. I know they have a lot of limitations in these shows, but I thought an extra two or three minutes were warranted. She didn’t ask Devon about his plans after graduation (he is going to grad school at Tulane, if what is being reported is correct).

Still, nice that they had Devon and Coach CJ. I think I saw Jeff Schiffman in the “family” group at the very end. Went by pretty fast so I am not sure, I was mostly going by the signature bow tie.

Most segments are limited to 2 minutes

I didn’t realize they were that short. I never watch the morning shows. I had to record this one. Seems like a long trip for such a short segment. Maybe they were in New York for other reasons as well. I assume this is broadcast from New York City. Like I said, I know nothing about it really. The only person I recognized on the set was the main host, Robin Roberts.
