Can anyone give there opinion on the pre-college drama(MT) program at cmu and MPulse at umich also for MT? I’m applying to both this year, but I just want to know which one is better. And which one will help me prepare for my college auditions? Also will either programs help me get into that program? I hear a lot of MPulse students into the undergraduate program at umich is that true? Will MPulse help me get into umich? I know I have applied to either yet but I will and if I get in to both i wouldn’t know which one to choose!!! Also anyone who attended these summer programs please tell what you like or disliked about the program. I attended nyu’s tisch summer high school program last year and I had a blast. Since I’m a junior this year I have one more summer to go to a MT summer program and I want to choose the right one!
Two of my kids did CMU pre-college (one MT/ one Acting). It is a wonderful “test drive” of the BFA life and you will get assistance with your college audition package. I had hoped they would spend some time filming prescreen pieces (and perhaps they do it now). You can build your “book” quite a bit if you put in the work. Also, the summer program served as the prescreen for D2. There was not a CMU prescreen the year D1 attended.
I don’t know much about MPulse but have heard if you do well, it can assist in the audition process. Have you looked at Cherubs (Northwestern)?
In previous years up to 4 MPulse kids have been accepted into UMich MT program. Although it seems that that improves your odds of being admitted to UMich MT if 10 percent of the MPulse kids are ultimately admitted, you need to understand the difference between causation and correlation. The kids who are admitted to MPulse are super talented. They are already considered the best of the best compared to hundreds of other MPulse applicants. It’s no surprise that those same kids are also among the best MT applicants as well. Because the faculty know the MPulse kids better, and know their work over 3 weeks rather than just 5 minutes, and know whether they are easy to work with, this may be a very slight bump in MT admissions, but this works both ways and could also be a negative if they had a bad impression of you over the 3 weeks of MPulse. Best advice is to pick a summer program based on what it offers, convenience, scheduling, cost etc, but not because you think it will help you get into a particular MT program.
artskids I haven’t looked at Cherubs. I’m not sure if I want to apply to northwestern. Should I still check it out?
@MuTh2024 I have heard terrific things about the Cherubs program in terms of training if you are interested.
