Hey there. So basically this is my first semester at UVM. I worked locally as a dental assistant for 5 years after high school and decided to leave my job and take on the school full time . I came in thinking thinking a BA in Bio would be a good choice, now i’m starting to think otherwise. I’m getting the sense that the traditional majors , (chem bio biochem ect… ect…), are actually becoming less preferred in terms of dental school acceptance. I know you can basically major in anything these days if you get a solid gpa and kill the DAT, but are there specific majors I should stay away from? As I previously stated, I’m currently a Bio major, but thinking about switching to either a BA in Geology, or go the Sociology route. From my understanding, Sociology would make more sense in terms of dental school but Geology is kick ass, and would ultimately be a better plan B than Sociology. Is Geology a little far fetched in terms of difficulty compared to Bio or Chem? Im trying to get straight A’s so I can compete in the application process… It’s rough these days, I didn’t realize how many people wanted to be a dentist until after I had already decided thats what I wanted to do for a living. But I can do it, ready to make it happen.
