I'm planning on taking Organic for the Life Sciences by getting 8 credits total with Chem AP credit + taking CHEM 2080 exam; I'm wondering, how hard is the placement exam for CHEM 2080 or maybe even placement exams in general (in comparison to the AP exam)?

For the pre-enroll period, do I assume I pass the placement exam or fail?

It is generally easier to take the placement exam and place out than take the course and get an A. In the placement exam you just have to ‘pass’ and it’s usually more straightforward than exams you would have got in the class. When you have exams in the class they need to make some questions tricky to get a nice distribution, but in a placement exam they just need to test if you know the material or not.

For chem 2080 bring a scientific calculator. AP chem knowledge will definitely help but it might not be sufficient. Meaning you probably would need to do some studying and reviewing. For chem 2080 you can assume you passed. Even if you fail, it doesn’t matter since 2080 is only offered in the spring semester (not fall). If you don’t pass, you can take the honors version or not take chem altogether.
