Pre-journalism at Mizzou or Journalism at University of Oklahoma

I have another quick question in regards to these two schools.

  1. Is it better going straight into the journalism program like I would at OU or go into pre journalism at Mizzou?
  2. I'm a black/white mixed girl and gay, would it be harder to be accepted socially at Mizzou? (I've heard there's been recent racism issues in the past few years)
  3. Where might you think an employer would value my degree more from? OU or Missouri? (Both are in the top 5 nationally for journalism majors)

I think the Journalism program at Mizzou is a bit more renowned, but both will be good.

I think you should ask about the current racial climate over on the Mizzou board.

Do you think you will have difficulty maintaining the 3.0 required to get into the Journalism major at Mizzou?
Will you be full pay at both schools? If so, I think it may be easier to get instate tuition at Mizzou.

Mizzou has more interest areas:

and this diversity initiative might benefit you:

Try to visit both schools. Speak with the Journalism departments, the lgbt programs and ask about the racial climates.

Are both roughly equivalent cost-wise?
Mizzou encourages you to get instate tuition, so it may be worth it, and it’s working on its racial issues.
(Also… not sure OU is much better than Mizzou in that respect, and both are working on it. OU leadership is strong wrt racial incidents whereas Mizzou’s wasn’t, so hopefully it’s being fixed.)
