Pre-Med Advice At Brown

Thanks a bunch. How do I go about meeting him? Should I email him ASAP with my questions, or would it be a waste of his time? Do you know anyone else I should contact?

unless this credit issue is something that affects whether or not you’ll go to Brown I would wait until you’re at school.

I plan on studying abroad in Edinburgh Junior Spring. Since I am a neuro concentrator, I plan on taking 1970 (independent research) all of sophomore year. Is doing research sophomore-junior fall good enough? I think I’ll like doing research, but since I’m studying abroad junior spring, positions in labs senior year will be difficult.

It is actually relatively uncommon to do independent study as early as sophomore year. Most people wait till their junior/senior year, and this makes it easier if you eventually want to write a thesis.

Another option is to look for professors and start dabbling in the lab, but not actually do independent study for credit until senior year. If you have established a good working relationship, there is no reason why a professor won’t take you back when you return from abroad.

Also, when you say “good enough”, why do you actually mean? An independent study done sophomore year will definitely still count towards concentration requirements, but you’re probably thinking of something else.

I have always wanted to go to medical school unfortunately my dad tells me I’m not good enough and that. I should be a nurse and my mom dosent know anything about medical school

“Need to find a premed program that offers automatic acceptance to medical school with requirements and gpa/sat standards that are not to high”

Not quite sure what you mean here. I assume you’re talking about some sort of combined bachelor/MD program, all of which are going to have pretty high GPA/SAT requirements seeing as they are accepting you as a high school student into medical school.

I imagine your best bets are going to be Texas schools. I would try posting this question in either the pre-med area of CC or on studentdoctor.net
