Pre-Med Advice for an Incoming Barnard Student

Hi,
So I’m an incoming freshman at Barnard College, and I’m having loads of difficulty picking my courses.
I was hoping if somebody could show me an example of their pre-med curriculum from
Freshman to Senior year.
Also, if you have taken AP chem already, do we still have to do the first year sequence of chemistry?
Your help and advice will be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks so much.

My daughter (2015) used the Columbia University recommended curriculum when she was filling out her class schedule at the end of the summer, but she found her adviser was a great help in guiding her to choose her classes. Also, a nice summary is included in your “Guide to Your First Year at Barnard College,” pg 18, which suggests to meet with Dean Adjua Starks during your first year.

My D was recommended to start with a chemistry class first (as opposed to a biology class). Her first semester included calculus, foreign language, FY seminar, and General Chemistry I with Lab (BC2001). Her spring semester included, FY seminar, foreign language, Organic Chemistry I and Lab (BC3230 and BC3328), plus she took another math class. For the upcoming fall, she registered for Literature, Physics with Lab I (Mechanics) and Organic Chemistry II and Lab (BC3231 and BC3335)

I believe that all that the AP chem does is exempts you from taking Fundamentals of Chemistry (BC1002). If you took the AP chem test and earned a score of 4 or 5, you will also get a credit of 3 points.

Good luck.

Thanks^^!
Yeah, I’ve heard that many people have taken chem first, as opposed to bio…
Has anyone here taken biology first?
(I’ve taken both AP bio and chem at my school, so I really don’t know what would be better suited for me)

If you’ve taken AP Bio before then you don’t have to do the 1000-level sequence for Bio but you do have to do the 1500-level one. Hope that helps!
Best of luck!
