Pre-med at Grinnell

Hey all, how's the pre-med program at Grinnell? I'm really interested in the college, but wouldn't being so far away from everything hinder my ability to do pre-med related ECs during the school year such as hospital volunteering and research?

I'm interested in physchology, neuroscience, and history, and am interested in doing research. Is it easy to get a student research position (helping the faculty) at Grinnell?

There's actually a regional medical center (90 beds) 4 blocks from campus. Research with faculty is very common (last year, the college spent 3/4 of a million dollars paying students to do research or have an internship).

Thanks for responding! If you could tell me anything more about Grinnell pre-med opportunities I'd be really grateful. (Grinnell is at the top of my college list)

Was able to find some info on the Grinnell website about med school applications. It's under about-info-factbook. Looks like small numbers apply, but rates of admission are high, ranging from 81% to 100% over the four years from 1999-2002. These numbers include MD, DO, and DDS programs. No breakdown on dentists vs MDs.

I know lots of folks go on to Johns Hopkins, so I'm assuming that JH is very familiar with and very complimentary about Grinnell grads.

Do you know the top medical schools that Grinnell grads go to? I'm kind of curious as i will be attending next year.

That information isn't on the website, but you may be able to get it from either the admissions office or the career office. For whatever reason, they have lots of info posted for law school admissions, including average GPA and LSAT scores for admitted students by school.
