Even though Princeton does not have a medical school, will it prepare students for medical school and a career in medicine? Are the advisors helpful? Are there any nearby hospitals to get clinical experience?
What does the presence of a med school have to do with preparing students to apply to medical school? Does PTon offer Organic Chemistry for undergrads? If yes, then you’re fine.
Med school admissions is based mostly on GPA and MCAT scores and success at pre-req courses. The other research and volunteer opps are available in most places – including PTon.
@efc123 Without giving too many details publicly, we know that Pton graduates do go onto med schools and one spoke fondly of their time at Princeton. There are research hospitals within easy driving distance. That’s all I know. HTH’s a little.
Son just finished his sophomore year, is a mol bio major. Went into Pton for engineering, quickly got out of that and decided to do premed. Seems like no premed major, no Med School, no problem at all. This school is all about helping its undergraduates get into whatever they want to get into after the graduating. Princeton has the HPA department and he seeks them out frequently, they are more than helpful and experts into getting kids into top med schools. Summer freshman year they told him not to worry about anything so he went abroad through Princeton experienced another world and then just vacationed. This summer they helped him get into a program for select kids where he does research at an ivy league Med School, he will do that again next summer and provided he keeps his GPA over 3.50, he will be able to matriculate without having taken the MCAT. His next 6 years are basically planned out already. Son very happy he decided to go to Pton over other top schools and not sure he would have these opportunities there even though there is no premed major or Medical School.
Why is this a question, anyways?
A medical school doesn’t really provide anything to premeds. It ostensibly grants additional research opportunities but top schools have a lot of research support for their undergraduates anyways. Princeton most likely has THE strongest undergraduate research support since you are pretty much required to do research.
