pre med at uconn

HI all,

My daughter is interested in Pre med and we are considering Uconn. However, I have read on their website that the students have no assigned pre med advisor. Can anyone tell me how the advising is for pre meds? Is this a problem. My impression is that she would be better off in a school with more one on one advising as Umass amherst claims to have. I’d love your thoughts though. Thanks!

@gallentjill My daughter is a senior MCB major at UConn on a pre-med track. Up until recently, there were two dedicated pre-med advisors (one recently took a teaching position and the university is actively looking to fill the void). My daughter has her assigned advisor within her major and then has met each semester with one of the pre-med advisors to ensure she was on-track for her med school plans and to answer any questions she has had. There are a lot of kids on pre-med/pre-dental tracks at UConn (I think the figure I heard was over 2,000), so the pre-med advising office is busy. My daughter has never had a problem getting an appointment scheduled and getting the information she needs. The office also maintains a website with a good deal of information.

@skimomof3 Thanks! Thats exactly the information I was looking for.
