Pre-med at University of Portland vs University of Washington

Hi there! I am a senior from Olympia, Washington, and I am trying to decide between UP and UW for undergrad. I know I want to go pre-med and am torn between the two schools. UP is farther from home (this is a good thing!) and 6,000 students, but still pretty metropolitan. UW is closer to home and metropolitan, but has 20,000 students. Classes are a lot smaller at UP, the largest being 60-70 students, opposed to 700+ lectures at UW, so I’ll likely have better relationships with professors at UP. I can still apply to honors at both and the cost difference is approximately is $1000, so it’s pretty insignificant. UW has its medical school, so obviously it’s great in the pre-med department, and it’s a research university. On the other hand, UP has one of the best nursing schools in the nation; that’s not my focus, but I feel like it still demonstrates a great health department. There’s also a good amount of research available at UP. Basically, my dilemma is that I greatly preferred the size and atmosphere of UP, but UW is research heavy, has the med school, and is in Seattle, so there are a ton of places to intern. I’m interested in UW for med school too, and I’ve heard that med schools prefer students that don’t come from their own undergraduate schools, but I don’t really have anything to back that up. Thoughts???
