How is the pre-med counseling at UVa? Are they approachable and do they know what they're talking about?

From everything I've seen, yes.

This is the website for advising premeds. As far as I've experienced, it's very organized and versatile. They have several important meetings throughout the years during which the premed advisor outlines the steps you need to take to get into med school; which classes to take, when to study/take your MCATs, who to ask for recommendations, number of schools you should apply to, etc.

UVa has a pretty good yield rate for med school. I think 70% of those who apply from UVa get in somewhere. The one problem I had with this system is that there is only ONE premed advisor who has to write EVERYONE a recommendation. So it would be to your advantage to get to know her extremely well, early on. She does an interview with you before she writes your recommendation. But even so, she won't really know you unless you have already established some sort of friendship with her.

Good to know, thanks!
