I am currently a junior in high school and looking to pursue a career in medicine. I am considering taking a pre-med track or just majoring in biology. Virginia tech and UNiversity of Virginia are my schools of intrest - any suggestions/comments/opinions?

aHave a back up plan in case you don’t get in or change your mind. I can not even begin to describe to you how many students currently in universities want to go to medical school. Ever single undergrad student currently in my lab, as well as almost half or more of the students I TA want to go to medical school. Make sure you take some finance/economics, computer science, and math classes with your electives. Good luck.

It doesn’t matter what you major in as long as you take the required courses in bio, chem, physics, etc. There is not a specific pre-med major.

Don’t just major in biology. Pick a major relevant to your interests and take the pre-med prerequisites. Many me schools actually favor some students who major in areas outsidee science because of the "diversity " they bring to the school (they can also boast high G.P.As from their crap majors).
