Hi all,
I’m looking at schools for pre med and right now I’m considering Wayne. I could easily get a good scholarship there (I’m a national merit semifinalist as of now). It’s a little too close to home but…whatever. The thing is some people say it’s really bad and some people say it’s great, and I don’t know what to think. Anyway, my question is how good of a school is it for premed, is it relatively easy to get volunteer/internship opportunities, what’s the student life like there??
(PS I looked at their med direct program, but I’m not really interested because I’m definitely not staying there for med school.)
I don’t know Wayne State per se, but do not go to a school because it is “easy” on premed. Go to a school that you like and fit, a happy student can get high grades and will be good for premed.
@“I.F.M” What is the main driving force to consider Wayne for you? Are you from Michigan Are you familiar with that area? Is it going to be commute school or plan to live in dorms/apts nearby?
If you are semifinalist, there are few other schools give solid aid. Have you researched and applied there?
You can study in any school to get into MD. But choose a school and major along with your plan B (in case if you don’t end of doing MD). You can get volunteer opportunities in Wayne and nearby places.
@GoldenRock I guess the main reason I’m considering it is the scholarship and that it would be easier to keep a higher GPA. I don’t know if I’ll stay there or commute if I go there.
What other schools are you thinking of?
https://provost.wayne.edu/wayne-med-direct says that Wayne State’s Med-Direct program comes with a full ride for undergraduate, and full tuition scholarship for medical school. Considering how expensive medical school can be, do not dismiss this program too lightly.
