Pre-med + cognitive science

Hope the capitalization effectively drew people in :)

So I know for Pre-Med you can major in anything. But of course there are logistical issues to be aware of.

I talked to someone very helpful on this site that had been in CogSci at Berkeley, but switched out, since their interests changed. The person mentioned, however, that due to the long list of requirements, it's hard to do both and graduate in time.

So I was wondering: has anyone done this combination? I was wondering how hard it is since the requirements don't overlap? Is it viable to finish in 4 years? Is it common for premeds? Are you well prepared for Med School?

Thanks!

I know several people in this major. There seems to be fewer pre-meds than other majors (i.e., IB, MCB, Public Health, psych). Possible reason is b/c CS61A is required for the major and this class is hard b/c there are engineers in it and without comp sci experience you probably should do CS3 first. There are a lot of requirements for it but as long as you plan your 4 years out well, you should be able to finish. The requirements are rather widespread for this major so I wouldn’t say it necessarily is “preparing you for med school” b/c med school has a lot of science courses the first 2 years and classes in the MCB/IB department (i.e., genetics, immunology, and histology) would probably prepare you better for these science courses. Granted, this is what I have heard, I am only an undergraduate and have limited knowledge of med school curriculum.
