Pre Med Course Load- Too much?

For those of you who have taken these classes, would you suggest taking them together the same semester?:

-Organic Chem 2 w/ Lab
- Physics 1 (without calc) w/Lab
-Calculus 1

So basically from your experience do you think one of these classes is too time consuming to mix with another? I'm most concerned with the first two. Oh, and I'm also taking another upper division science course along with this.

Thanks :)

Yes, that is way too much. Physics paired with orgo 2 will be extremely difficult, along with calculus. I’d pick one or the other - probably just orgo, and start physics in the spring and do physics 2 next summer. Calculus will be difficult and will be time-consuming and annoying more so than anything - you have written homework collected randomly, so you basically have to have all of your homework done every week, along with a quiz every week in discussion, and a webassign due weekly. What’s the other upper division science course?

Thanks for the reply. This is my spring schedule so far. I was thinking immunology too. The thing is, I wanted to take the MCAT by next fall so I have This fall, next spring and next summer (3 semesters) to finish my organic chem and physics sequence. I’m taking orgo 1 by itself in the fall. If I cut out calc 1 in the spring, then I’d end up having to take the calc sequence (calc 1 & 2) during my senior year (last two semesters), since that’s the only other place I can fit it. Do you think if I eliminate calc, then the orgo 2 + physics 1 +labs is manageable?

Immunology is supposed to be pretty hard. What are you taking this semester? Would it be impossible to take anything this fall? Orgo 2 and physics will be manageable, but the people I’ve known who have done that have REALLY struggled. I haven’t taken physics or orgo personally, but I am pre-health, and have a bunch of other friends who are pre-health too who have taken these courses. A lot of the people I know took orgo 1 and 2 during summer, or at least one or the other. Trying to take it with physics is rough, but doable. Just invest in a StudyEdge and that alone will be really helpful!
