Pre med courses at Northeastern

Hi all,

would anyone shed some light on premed courses at Northeastern?
we are US citizens currently in Bangalore and it does seem like we have a wide pool to choose from for our daughter.

we have about 20 colleges and are looking to cut this by at least half.

if you have any info, this would be really useful to us.

thanks,
anu

Northeastern is a great choice is you are planning to go to med school after undergrad. There is no pre med major, but there are pre med advisors that help each student make sure that they are taking the right courses to get them admitted to med school.

What makes Northeastern such a great pre med school is their partnership with Tufts University School of Medicine. Tufts allows Northeastern students to apply to their medical school in either their sophomore or middler year and receive a decision during their junior year. The program is really amazing and definitely something to consider when selecting undergraduate schools, as Northeastern is one of only 5 schools that has this partnership with Tufts.

Thank you very much!!
we will definitely retain NEU in our list!!

My NEU son is studying engineering, but in my research I saw a lot of premed discussions. It sounds like GPA and test scores (and I think maybe references and research) are very important. So if any of your schools are known for “grade deflation”, that would make it harder to get into med school.

It seems like co-op could be a good thing if there were hospital jobs available.

If you’re interested, there’s a whole site dedicated to “Prehealth” advising:

Very very useful.

@colorado mom: thank you! we can work on the recco letters. But we do not have any research under our belt yet. will this come into play at this time?

@Black.Ice.: I will check the link. So much to look at in so little time; sometimes I despair especially because we are away in another country and are unable to have a “guidance counsellor”, if we had stayed in the US.

thanks, a

Sorry for the confusion. My comments were geared at med school criteria.
