Hey! I was thinking overtime. I definitely want to go to med school, but I’m a bit confused about it hat is possible during my undergrad years. Is it possible to be in A BM program and minor in a language and complete pre led requirements?
Thanks!

Only if you want to take 6+ years to finish undergrad…
So you mean major in music, minor in foreign language and do pre-med pre-reqs? Definitely sounds hard. At the very least, you would drop the minor. Usually a minor in a foreign language requires more than just foreign language classes so definitely don’t need those. Also by BM do you mean BFA in music or BA in music? I imagine a BFA has more requirements than a BA.
BM (also BMus) = bachelor of music. It’s an audition-based conservatory-type program with a focus on performance. Professional degree program for musical performers (instrument, voice or conducting). More music-specific requirements than a BA. (3/4 of all required classes are music/music related. Very few electives.) BM and BFA in music are equivalent programs and which degree is awarded depends upon the specific school.
I can’t think of ONE good reason to have a major AND a minor AND take the prerequisite courses for medical school admission…regardless of your major.
I have a professional musician son with a BMA, and a MM…both music performance degrees (bachelors of music applied, master of music).
He was PLENTY busy just taking the courses to satisfy his music performance requirements. Remember…you will be taking a bunch of one or two credit courses that meet 3-5 times a week. You will have ensemble rehearsals daily, and maybe more than one. You will need time to practice your instrument daily for both your ensemble and private instrument instruction. Music performance is a very time consuming major. VERY.
In addition, there is a huge list of required music courses…no choice…
There ARE music performance majors who do take the required courses for medical school. And get accepted to medical school. BUT…it takes time, and very careful planning. And possibly or probably some summer courses.
I would strongly suggest you ditch the idea of a minor. Any minor. You will have enough trouble scheduling your music courses, and electives to satisfy med school admissions requirements. TBH, you will, have enough trouble scheduling your music stuff!
One other monkey wrench…many times, science labs meet at the same time as ensemble rehearsals at the end of the school day. You need to check the colleges where you are interested to see if this is their scheduling. If it is…I can guarantee you…as a music major, you cannot elect NOT to attend your ensemble rehearsals. And you have to attend the labs for those science courses as well.
So…is your plan possible…sure…but probably NOT with a minor of any sort. And you should plan on some summer courses to satisfy the med school admission course requirements.
You have now started about 6 threads with variations of this same question. What are you still confused about? You have been given very good advice already. Are you expecting that if you ask enough times, someone will tell you it’s a good idea?
This OP is in NINTH grade.
I can’t imagine why he is obsessing over this issue as a ninth grader. He has been posting about this on multiple, threads for a year.
@SDave03 you need to let this go for now. Sometime in the next couple of years…maybe you will have gotten a better direction in terms of what you actually want to do.
