Pre-Med/Engineering????

Hey I am a junior in High school and my two interests are Pre Med and some sort of Engineering. I am not too sure which one to pick, but I came upon a thought: Is it possible to be a Pre-Med while being an Engineering Major. I know you can major in anything if you are a Pre med student, but is it possible to have a decent lifestlyle and still get good solid grades (also I am not a genius--I need to work harder then others too get the grades).

Lifestyle?! Hahaha....I have a friend at a top-tier engineering program and he's doing premed as well...OH WAIT: He tried!

He stopped engineering and headed directly to major in MOLECULAR BIOLOGY and by the way-he was going to be an engineering triple major.

What happened with him was that he went from triple to double to single and then switched to the Molbio dept., he never expected this.

And in my opinion: he's a genuis. Always scored 120+ on AMC, ~3 on AIME etc. and not to mention all the other things.

And he even told me that he worked hard but still failed, and trust me you'd rather not do engineering and actually enjoy life for a while. MOLBIO/Chem etc. are better options.

I understand your situation, I'd recommend not majoring in engineering while doing premed. Either of them is a burden by themselves alone. And its harder to get good grades in engineering and that in turn makes getting into med school harder (90% of the time).

Just my two cents, its your choice anyways.

One good thing about majoring in engineering while doing premed is that you'll have a more well-defined career path available to you in case you aren't accepted to medical school.

True! Its a good safety.

The one person I know who went to medical school after graduating with an engineering degree went to summer school to complete the requisite sciences needed for medical school. It can be done, and if you factor in summer school, then your workload during the school year would be that of a typical engineering student.

Not to mention: MCATs
You need time to prep for them.

engineering is NOT a good choice for pre-med....if you want to do it go ahead...

hehe sounds like Engineering and Pre Medi is first Degree Suicide. Well thanks for the advise. I will just make my mind and pick one or ther other (still have a year or two to decide).

THankssss
