Engineering And premed?

Would it be possible to Major in Engineering as well as Pre-Med? Not worth it? Too much work? Anyone do this? Better to just pick a field and do it?
I don't even really understand how the whole pre-med thing works.
thanks

I can't talk to you about engineering, but what about premed don't you understand?

Well, premed isn't actually a major, or if it is it probably isn't wise to major in it. Instead, you major in whatever you want and just make sure to take the prerequisite science courses for med school. So, is it possible to major in engineering and be a premed? Yes. It is very difficult though. This is because engineering courses are about as difficult as you can get in college, and medical school is strongly numbers-based. An easier major that you can get better grades in is probably a better route. However, if engineering is your passion and you think you can get really good grades in it, then by all means do it!

you can do any major you want and still fulfill the pre-med requirements. i know a neurosurgeon who was a history major and received a degree in history upon graduation at NYU, but decided to apply to med school too

Do what you enjoy studying and have an interest in. If you really enjoy engineering and are enthusiastic about learning, then you will do fine. That said, if you don't enjoy engineering too much and are just using it as a plan B (or whatever ur motive might be) then you MAY not do as well as you might have in a major u enjoy.
As to ur other question, premed is just a set of courses you must take to apply for med school. It is not a major and they can be taken at any time before you matriculate to med school.

I'm a Biomedical Engineering major Georgia Tech for undergrad. I'll most likely end up with a 3.4 or 3.5 GPA. With that low of a GPA will I even have a chance of getting into med school? Also, when should I begin studying for the MCAT and start working on applications?

Yes, you can get into med school with a 3.4 or 3.5...I got in with a 3.49 and my major was sociology - which even I admit to as not being a particularly "challenging" major.
